Job Description

Midland University located in Fremont Nebraska (just outside the metro Omaha area) is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We are an institution committed to holistic student success and career-readiness serving over 1700 diverse undergraduate and graduate students.

We believe that involvement and a strong sense of belonging are fundamental to a transformative college experience. We seek an innovative and student-centered leader to join our community as the Director of Student Involvement and Belonging. This vital position provides vision and leadership for the Office of Student Life and reports to the Vice President of Student Success and Belonging.

Job Duties:

  • Work closely with the Vice President for Student Success and Belonging to develop a comprehensive multi-faceted plan for student involvement that is aligned with the universitys commitment to student belonging engagement and retention.
  • Lead and support staff in developing a comprehensive co-curricular program designed to respond to students interests and needs. This includes planning major campus traditions and events such as Warrior Skills Warrior Days Club/Org Fair and Homecoming.
  • Engage the Universitys diverse student body facilitate student learning and development and encourage the development of a vibrant student community.
  • Develop relationships with University stakeholders including faculty staff students and alumni to assess student needs foster co-curricular linkages and develop appropriate programmatic responses that promote student learning career-readiness and holistic development. Partners include Academics Athletics Student Life and Institutional Advancement.
  • Lead coordinate and oversee the student organization component of the Office including the provision of advising training and supporting of student government clubs and organizations and Greek Life and advising assigned student organizations.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Student Life policies and procedures to ensure alignment with current standards compliance with university policy Nebraska and federal law to provide clear guidance for students and operational effectiveness.
  • Develop and oversee budgets for student government clubs and organizations and ensure compliance with University fiscal policies and alignment with goals for student engagement learning and development.
  • Collaborate closely with the Residence Life team in developing and implementing engaging programs and events that foster involvement learning and development for all Midland University students ensuring it is student-centered and ethical professional practice.
  • Evaluate student staff performance and facilitate training and professional development in relevant competency areas.
  • Evaluate Student Life programs services and activities and assess impact on meeting Student Development goals and student learning outcomes.
  • Develop and implement inclusive outreach and communication strategies to expand student involvement in Student Life programs and activities.
  • Spearhead the implementation and management of an online interactive student engagement platform for all student organizations.
  • Assist in the development of student engagement and student leadership initiatives including coordination of workshops training promotion of social equity and student advocacy in partnership with Student Affairs staff and campus partners
  • Administrative Oversight: Manage and coordinate operational logistics for the Olson Student Center including reservations work orders digital signage campus-wide student communications (Watermark) and departmental budget reconciliation.
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completed Masters degree in Higher Education Administration College Student Personnel Counseling or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years post graduate professional experience within student affairs in a post-secondary institution.

Skills and Abilities Needed:

  • Ability to work nights and weekends..
  • Understanding of multicultural competence and a strong desire to work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Working knowledge of student development theory standards and practices and current student retention challenges sufficient to: Assess student needs and characteristics identify trends set goals for student learning and create programs and services that are responsive to student needs and advance student learning and development.
  • Direct experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; an understanding of how these identities impact their transition into university life and a track record of creative responsive and effective programming for a diverse non-traditional student population.

Compensation:

Wages will commensurate with education experience and individual strengths.
