Job Description

POSITION: Anticipated Assistant Director of Special Education

BUILDING: Administration Office

Job Summary

Carlisle Area School District is seeking a dynamic and highly qualified leader to serve as Assistant Director of Special Education. This individual will assist the Director of Student Services in managing all aspects of the districts special education programs ensuring compliance with federal/state regulations and supporting effective services for students with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the development and administration of special education programs (In district and out-of-district placements).
  • Serve as LEA representative for IEP meetings and oversee compliance with state and federal mandates.
  • Supervise and support special education staff including professional growth evaluations and training.
  • Coordinate the Extended School Year (ESY) program and transitions from early intervention to school-age services.
  • Collaborate with principals teachers parents and outside agencies to ensure effective programming.
  • Assist with budget development and resource allocation within Student Services.
  • Facilitate department meetings and contribute to district-wide professional development.

Qualifications

  • Valid Pennsylvania Administrative Certification required.
  • Masters degree and Supervisory Certificate preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of public education experience including classroom instruction.
  • Strong knowledge of IDEA Section 504 ADA FERPA and related special education law.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership communication and staff supervision.

Additional Information

This is a 260-day administrative position with competitive salary and benefits reporting directly to the Director of Student Services.
