Akura Medical a Shifamed portfolio company is seeking an accomplished Principal Software Engineer to lead the design architecture and integration of next-generation medical imaging this senior technical leadership role you will define technical strategy drive system-level innovation and collaborate across disciplines to deliver imaging solutions that meet the highest standards of performance safety and compliance. This role emphasizes deep technical expertise and strategic problem-solving enabling breakthrough advances in patient care without relying on traditional management layers. This is a full-time on-site position at our Los Gatos CA offices.

Responsibilities Skills & Hands-On Experience:

Serve as the technical authority for the design architecture and integration of advanced medical imaging platforms.
Define and execute long-term technology roadmaps that align with company objectives and clinical needs.
Drive system-level innovation across imaging algorithms visualization tools AI/ML integration and cloud-based solutions.
Lead high-level trade-off analyses and risk assessments to inform strategic design decisions.
Collaborate with R&D clinical regulatory and manufacturing leaders to ensure solutions are scalable manufacturable and compliant with FDA ISO 13485 and other standards.
Establish best practices for system verification validation and cybersecurity within imaging platforms.
Mentor and elevate engineers across the organization fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
Build and manage partnerships with academic collaborators vendors and external technology partners.
Represent Shifamed as a thought leader through patents publications and conference presentations.

Education & Work Experience:

Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Biomedical Engineering Computer Science or related field (advanced degree strongly preferred).
12 years of experience in medical imaging system design with a track record of leading complex programs from concept to regulatory clearance.
Deep expertise in imaging modalities (e.g. X-ray MRI ultrasound) and advanced image processing algorithms.
Proficiency in relevant software and system development tools (e.g. MATLAB Python C VTK Qt/QML).
Proven experience architecting on-prem as well as cloud-based imaging solutions and integrating AI/ML methods for computer vision and diagnostic applications.
Strong knowledge of regulatory and quality frameworks (e.g. FDA ISO 13485 IEC 60601) including cybersecurity best practices.
Demonstrated record of innovation evidenced by patents publications or recognized industry contributions.
Exceptional communication leadership and problem-solving skills with the ability to align multidisciplinary teams around a shared technical vision.
Success thriving in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

Our salary ranges are calculated by role level and location. Please note that your position within that range will be determined by your job-related knowledge location skills experience relevant education and training/certifications. The base salary range for this full-time position is between $190000 to $220000 equity benefits.
