Program Eligibility:
Third-year day or fourth-year evening law students scheduled to graduate in 2026; and
Current full-time judicial law clerks who received their J.D. prior to 2026 and either:
1. Began their clerkship(s) upon graduation from law school; or
2. Accepted and deferred for up to one year and did not practice as an attorney
before beginning their clerkship(s).
Candidate Criteria:
Fellowship Program candidates will be selected on the basis of several factors including but not
limited to:
Academic and intellectual ability.
Knowledge experience and ability in legal areas such as research advocacy trial preparation discovery investigation negotiation etc.
Legal professional or personal experience related to the mission of the Attorney Generals Office.
Demonstrated engagement and leadership in school and/or community activities.
Strength of writing and editing skills and substantive experience with legal writing and editing through law school activities (e.g. law journal or equivalent) or internships.
Commitment to the diverse communities the office serves.
Flexibility and interest in a variety of legal subject areas.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to public interest law a connection to the people and communities we serve and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.

The Stephanie Lovell Honors Program named in honor of former First Assistant Stephanie Lovell to recognize her many contributions to the Attorney Generals Office offers entry-level attorneys the unique and exciting opportunity to engage in the practice of law and policy in the largest public sector legal office in the Commonwealth.
Primary Duties: Program Description:
The Fellowship Program is a two-year term that begins in September 2026 and ends in September 2028. As an initiative of the offices Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee the Stephanie Lovell Honors Program is especially intended to expand opportunities within the Attorney Generals Office for new lawyers and to attract a pool of candidates from a broad spectrum of backgrounds who reflect the diversity of the people of the Commonwealth and the communities we serve.
Our work at the Attorney Generals Office encompasses a variety of different practice areas including civil rights health care consumer protection environmental protection criminal prosecution fair labor administrative law data privacy constitutional defense of the Commonwealths nation-leading laws and so much addition to our Boston offices we have regional offices that serve the Western Central and Southeastern regions of Massachusetts. Given this broad array of essential public services selected fellows will have the opportunity to explore and gain experience in a variety of practice areas over the course of the two-year fellowship.
Fellows receive training and guidance from experienced attorneys to enhance proficiency and
develop skills. Through the Fellowship Program new attorneys will launch their legal careers by
enriching their legal experience broadening their exposure to the public sector and assuming substantial individual responsibility for their work.
Fellows generally complete three rotations through different areas of the office.
Fellows will have the opportunity during their final rotation to seek continued employment with the Attorney Generals Office.
All individuals invited to participate in the Stephanie Lovell Honors Program must commit to a two-year term and must take the Massachusetts bar exam no later than July 2026. Additionally individuals must be admitted to the bar before the start of their second-year rotation.
Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt. Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions.
Salary: $78000 with benefits
