The Department of French Studies in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences at Louisiana State University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in the narrative traditions of Louisianas French-speaking populations. We are seeking a scholar whose research is grounded in Louisiana French written literature culture oral traditions and folklore in both historical and contemporary contexts. The ideal candidate will have a primary focus in Louisiana Francophonie as a node in a constellation formed by Louisiana the Caribbean Africa and Continental France. We are especially eager to welcome a colleague with a strong background in ecocriticism and ecological theory and with additional areas of interest such as religious studies music performance media studies food studies or linguistics. We are seeking a scholar who can situate their research in a generative framework that invites interdisciplinary collaboration within the space of Louisiana French studies including but not limited to the critical paradigms of Caribbean Studies Transatlantic Studies Indigenous Studies Black Studies and Womens Gender and Sexuality Studies. The successful candidates research will reflect on the cultural productions of Louisiana Francophonie and the historical constructions of Louisiana French identities as well as on contemporary challenges and opportunities confronting French-language cultures in twenty-first century Louisiana. Designated as one of the Centers of Excellence by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy the LSU Department of French Studies and its Center for French and Francophone Studies are in addition members of the Rseau International des Chaires Senghor de la Francophonie.
Required Qualifications: The candidate must have a PhD or an equivalent degree at the time of employment and a native or near-native mastery of both French and English.
Responsibilities: Ability to teach French language literature and cultural studies undergraduate courses as well as graduate courses in their field of expertise. Interest in innovative pedagogy and expertise in digital forms of delivery is also desirable.
