Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Customer Energy & Transportation (CETS) team specifically within our Mass Market Engineering team in Minneapolis MN. The paid internship provides practical work experience to work across a variety of energy efficiency and electrification programs develop your existing technical and communication skills and collaborate with key internal stakeholders. Engineering interns at Xcel Energy are relied upon to play a role in achieving department objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what youve learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands-on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with both professionals and other interns across CETS team.
Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Assist with technical process documentation creation and development
Support engineering tool development
Learn about and apply technical building science (envelope lighting and HVAC) concepts
Assist with Salesforce development testing
This position is for a June 1 2026 start date with a one year term. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internships initial term based on the candidates student status performance and Xcel Energys business needs.
Minimum Requirements:
Current student freshman and above.
Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering
Able to commute to the corporate office in Minneapolis MN
Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the spring (up to 20 hours a week).
Preferred Qualifications:
3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher
Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework
Experience or Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint etc.)
