Human Resources Generalist in a Law Firm Maternity Leave Contract (20 Months)

With a strong reputation for delivering innovative legal solutions and maintaining a collaborative people-first culture they are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Human Resources Generalist to join their team on a 20-month maternity leave contract.

Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
- Coordinate biweekly payroll processing in collaboration with the payroll team in the Montreal office ensuring accuracy and timeliness in a large national firm environment.
- Prepare and submit employee change forms retroactive adjustments and payroll package updates.
- Communicate with payroll regarding new hires departures and troubleshooting.
HRIS System Administration
- Provide employee support for HRIS-related inquiries (e.g. pay stubs T4s).
- Monitor and audit vacation banked time sick days and floater days across multiple practice groups.
- Ensure accurate and timely updates to employee records.
Onboarding & Offboarding
- Set up new hires in HRIS and ensure compliance with payroll deadlines.
- Coordinate comprehensive onboarding including Health & Safety orientation first-day logistics and training schedules that reflect the firms high-performance culture.
- Manage benefit enrollment background checks and offboarding administration.
Recruitment & Employment Documentation
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for a range of legal and business services roles reflecting the firms reputation as a top employer.
- Draft employment letters and maintain personnel files with precision and compliance.
- Track resumes and support talent acquisition strategies aligned with the firms global standing.
Committee Participation & Engagement
- Serve as Co-Chair of the Joint Health & Safety Committee promoting a safe and supportive workplace.
- Participate in the National Wellness Committee and lead local initiatives such as wellness events lunch & learns and firm-wide engagement programs.
- Support a culture of well-being consistent with the firms recognition as a leader in professional excellence.
Benefits & GRRSP Administration
- Enroll new hires in benefit programs and manage updates with Sun Life.
- Respond to employee inquiries on benefits and retirement savings with a client-service approach.
- Administer GRRSP eligibility enrollment and waivers.
General HR Administration
- Support national and local performance review cycles and coordinate three-month reviews.
- Manage annual initiatives such as flu clinics staff appreciation programs and year-end gifts reinforcing the firms culture of recognition.
- Track overtime submissions manage First Aid Attendant certifications and oversee HR record digitization.
- Coordinate LAA practicum placements contributing to the next generation of legal support professionals.
Qualifications
- 35 years of progressive experience in human resources preferably in a professional services or law firm environment.
- Completion of a recognized HR certificate or diploma program.
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices payroll and benefits administration.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll/document management systems.
- Excellent interpersonal organizational and communication skills.
- High level of professionalism discretion and judgment in handling confidential information.
Start Date: December 2025
Salary: $65000 to $80000 based on experience
