Job Description

EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION (ECSE) PARAEDUCATOR

Location:North Hill Elementary

3.5 hours per day 4 days per week

Monday Thursday

Following traditional 2024-2025 school year calendar

$17.48/hr. per RPEA Master Agreement

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Patience and ability to effectively interact and maintain a professional rapport with others including students teachers parents and other staff members in the district.
  2. Experience working with students supported through special education programs preferred.
  3. Competency required to provide academic support with pre-school level curriculum.
  4. Experience working with colleagues to organize plan and implement lessons yet has flexibility to work independently and demonstrate use of good judgment.
  5. Possesses the necessary social and academic skills to promote cultural differences.

SALARY: $17.48/hour. The hourly wage will be paid from the Instructional Classification Schedule per the Rochester Paraeducator Association Master Agreement.

JOB DESCRIPTION

CLASSIFICATION:INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIAL EDUCATION

TITLE:SPECIAL EDUCATION EARLY CHILDHOOD (ECSE) PARAEDUCATOR

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience with pre-school age students and/or training in appropriate techniques for interacting with special needs students preferred.
  2. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to interact appropriately and effectively with students parents and staff.
  3. Excellent attendance record flexibility and competence for assigned responsibilities including ability to meet the physical and academic needs of students.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building or Program Administrator

Receives day-to-day direction from classroom teacher basic or resource teacher or Teacher Consultant.

CALENDAR: Follows adjusted school calendar

JOB GOAL:To provide support to the special education program by assisting students with special needs in compliance with program philosophy and goals for the individual student(s).

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. In accordance with the students prescribed learning program assists students with orientation reading music art physical education and other curriculum tasks.

2. Follows through with prescribed behavioral management programs.

3. Assists with the development of instructional materials; demonstrates initiative and creativity with individual children and their program implementation when appropriate.

4. Assists with physical mobility including assisting students getting off the bus to the building from the building and on the bus.

5. Assists with physical mobility self-care and personal hygiene and daily living activities such as toileting feeding catheterization tube feeding monitoring life support apparatus etc.

6. Participates in physical activities which may be part of the basic program and/or activities which may be unique to the students educational program.

7. Reports successes and difficulties with student learning plans to the appropriate special educator in an informative timely and professional manner.

8. Assists the teacher with routine classroom operations such as distributing and putting away materials preparing bulletin boards writing lessons on the board preparing materials for classroom use and correcting student work; maintains and procures instructional materials supplies and resource materials.

9. Supervises and assists students while they are involved in activities other than in the classroom.

10. Performs other duties as assigned by special educators Student Services Director or building principal as requested.
