DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY
Research Assistant (Marine Biodiversity) ()
We are seeking a highly motivated and organised Research Assistant to contribute to a marine biodiversity project. This is a one-year full-time position commencing as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal based on performance and project needs.
The successful candidate will be integral to a project employing a combination of traditional (benthic trawling) and novel (environmental DNA) techniques to assess marine ecosystems.
Responsibilities:The Research Assistant will be responsible for implementing key aspects of the marine biodiversity project. Key duties include participating in field trips to conduct benthic trawling and eDNA sampling; identifying and processing collected specimens; and managing analysing and summarising the resulting data.
Requirements:Applicants must possess abachelor of Science (BSc) degree in a relevant discipline such as Marine Biology Ecology or Environmental Science. Essential qualifications include demonstrated hands-on experience in biodiversity research including field work specimen identification and data analysis. The ideal candidate will be organised self-motivated and capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team. A good command of both written and spoken English is required.
