This is an Identified Position for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Person

Pro-Rata Salary Range of $99100k Base to $114k Base (dependent on experience skills and capabilities)

Plus 12% Superannuation and access to Not-for-Profit Salary Packaging with a value of up to $15900. (more information provided below).

The Opportunity:

Our Guunu-maana (Heal) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Program at The George Institute drives meaningful and ethical research and advocacy to transform the health and wellbeing of First Nations peoples and communities.

Guunu-maana is led through Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing being and doing to generate evidence that privileges Indigenous knowledges through actions that empower communities and people.

Our successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Guunu-maana (Heal) Program by engaging directly with Aboriginal communities researchers and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services.

The position involves working with young people under 18 coordinating project activities contributing to report writing and assisting with submissions to Human Research Ethics Committees and governance bodies. This position will be supported by our team primarily made up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers staff and students at The George Institute.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide a consistent level of contribution to the research activities of the projects
  • Assist with report writing and manuscript preparation
  • Assist with the preparation of Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and Governance submissions
  • Initiate and conduct research under limited supervision
  • Contribute towards building future projects and grant applications
  • Engage consult and maintain collaborations with Aboriginal communities researchers and Community Controlled Health Services
  • Ensure that research being conducted is congruent with ethical guidelines for research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Effectively produce and maintain project data.
  • Regularly update study tracking tools and systems
  • Manage effective communication with internal and external study staff and key stakeholders
  • Adhere to all study protocols and participate in protocol training sessions as required
  • Adhere to safety policies and study SOPs as outlined by The George Institute
  • Adhere to the workplace policies and procedures of study sites as required
  • Attend study team meetings and consistently represent The George Institute and the study in a professional and positive manner when engaging with communities.

This is an Identified Position for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person

  1. Is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and
