On 1 January 2026 Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service Peninsula Health Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health a newly merged health service with more than 22000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce providing new training education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026 all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

About the Team

Alfred Health - Occupational Therapy Services operates across The Alfred Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals with clinical services aligned to Alfred Healths strategic goals and operational performance targets. About the Role

The Allied Health Assistant (AHA) in this role will work closely with Occupational Therapy staff to provide a flexible and responsive service that meets each clients identified therapeutic role will be based in the subacute team at Caulfield Hospital primarily delivering care in the home-based team and one day a week on the Caulfield Rehabilitation/Aged Care Wards

The position is responsible for the implementation of individual and group interventions and/or therapy programs as delegated by the treating Occupational Therapist. Group interventions can include facilitating upper limb retraining or falls education. The successful applicant will also work with patients to increase functional abilities in areas such as personal care meal preparation sessions and community role includes executing suitable therapeutic activities and plans to progress client independence within defined goals as set by the Occupational Therapist. The successful applicant will be able to work autonomously while displaying strong communication skills to work closely with the Occupational Therapy AHA will also be responsible for administrative and clinical support functions which assist with patient management and contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Occupational Therapy Service.

Skills & Experience

  • Completion of Certificate IV (Allied Health Assistance) from a registered training organisationOR
  • Recognised equivalent qualification (as determined by the line manager):
    • Higher qualification in a relevant health science discipline at Diploma or Associate Diploma level
    • Certificate-level qualification in a relevant health-related field
    • Overseas-trained Allied Health practitioner with a qualification at Diploma level or higher
    • Allied Health undergraduate student (in a relevant health science discipline) having successfully completed one year of study at minimum.
  • Previous employment in an AHA Grade 2 or AHA Grade 3 role (3 years clinical experience required to be considered for the Grade 3 AHA role)
  • Previous experience working within an acute hospital setting and/or rehabilitation
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously (within scope of practice).
  • Sound interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work well within a team environment and relate to medical nursing and allied health staff patients and families.
  • Sound self-management skills appropriate to level of responsibility/experience (ie. organisation planning time management and priority setting)
  • A drivers licence is also essential to this role
