Your opportunity

Mission Australia is seeking a dedicated Dual Diagnosis Officer (AOD and Mental Health) to provide specialist support to individuals and families experiencing co-occurring mental health and alcohol or other drug challenges.

Working across multiple programs and sites this role is integral in supporting case managers to deliver safe timely and integrated responses. The successful candidate will conduct comprehensive assessments develop person-centred care plans and coordinate holistic support using trauma-informed culturally responsive approaches.

This position also involves secondary consultation advocacy and collaboration with external agencies to enhance outcomes for people with complex needs while strengthening stakeholder relationships and advancing service delivery excellence.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Conduct comprehensive culturally safe assessments for individuals with co-occurring mental health and AOD challenges using recognised dual diagnosis tools.
  • Develop and oversee integrated recovery-oriented care plans addressing mental health substance use and psychosocial needs.
  • Provide specialised person-centred case management including outreach and support for complex participants while assisting case managers in dual diagnosis-related work.
  • Offer secondary consultation mentoring and coaching to staff to build capacity in recognising and responding to complex AOD and mental health needs.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders including service providers and community agencies to ensure coordinated and holistic support.
  • Maintain accurate timely and comprehensive client records reports and data in line with organisational protocols and accreditation standards.
  • Actively contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives including the development implementation and evaluation of programs resources and training.

Requirements for success

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in human services social work mental health or AOD with demonstrated expertise in dual diagnosis.
  • Strong knowledge of co-occurring mental health and AOD issues including trauma social determinants treatment models and relevant NT legislation.
  • Experience delivering person-centred trauma-informed and culturally responsive care including working with First Nations communities.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across multi-site high-demand programs and build trusted relationships with participants colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capacity to mentor coach and upskill staff to improve recognition and response to complex mental health and substance use needs.
  • Excellent communication engagement and organisational skills including clear written reporting and data management.
  • Resilience self-awareness and professionalism with the ability to manage workload maintain boundaries and contribute positively to team culture.
