Job Description

The Opportunity

In this once-in-a-career opportunity youll shape an academic music program at the leading edge of high-performance and innovation both for Tasmania and nationally. The Conservatorium enables tight focus on highly specialised music curriculum while building strong lasting connections between government creative industry cultural organisations and the University.

In reinstating the Conservatorium youll strengthen partnerships with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and music organisations statewide nurturing classical music traditions while fostering contemporary music production and culture.

This position offers a unique opportunity for an exceptional leader to bring vision and deep management capability to shaping the Conservatoriums future and enabling its contribution to excellence impact and sustainability. Youll join the Arts and Society leadership team helping build and maintain a collegial culture of collaboration within the University and across government business and community - bringing the best of the University to every aspect of our mission.

Whats Required

The Director provides strategic academic and operational leadership to deliver high-quality education and research foster a thriving and safe organisational culture and drive impactful community engagement. You will play a key leadership role in ensuring the Universitys offerings are high quality distinct and aligned to strategic goals regulatory obligations and sustainability targets. You will bring to the role:

  • Demonstrated experience in providing high-quality strategic and operational leadership of a music-focused organisation and an understanding of the academic context of the University of Tasmania Conservatorium of Music.
  • A strong vision and practical capability to deliver high-quality distinctive and sustainable music education including the ability for innovative leadership in the design and delivery of a compelling high-quality and sustainable Bachelor of Music.
  • Experience in leadership anchored in a national profile in Music including a record of successful collaboration and facility to secure external funding.
  • Sound financial and resource management capabilities including budget development forecasting and efficient deployment of people and assets.
  • Strong understanding of governance compliance and regulatory frameworks relevant to higher education research and risk management.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships with industry government and community stakeholders to enhance the Academic Units profile and impact.
