Under general supervision performs a variety of journey-level work in the maintenance installation repair and inspection of complex refrigeration equipment including air conditioning systems and chillers. Work involves the servicing of air-conditioning systems and units refrigerators water cooling systems and related equipment utilized in a wide variety of county facilities and buildings. Work includes determining work methods and procedures and frequent participation in refrigeration assignments as well as responsibility for the quality of work produced.
Troubleshoots a variety of HVAC equipment/system problems in order to identify the nature and extent of the maintenance/repair problem identify the type of repair/preventive measure needed identify potential safety issues and/or find the fault in the system.
Obtains materials supplies and equipment needed to complete assigned HVAC project/work order.
Estimates/determines materials supplies equipment and time needed to complete assigned HVAC work order/project in order to facilitate scheduling identify approximate costs and staffing needs identify type/amount of materials needed and/or ensure materials supplies and equipment needed are available.
Performs a variety of routine HVAC maintenance/repairs in order to maintain facility/equipment in operating condition ensure safe work environment and/or ensure HVAC service is not interrupted.
Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on a variety of HVAC equipment/services in order to identify potential problems minimize need for emergency repairs and/or maximize the useful life of the equipment.
Prepares written materials or uses electronic device/computer/PDA (i.e. work order status materials request time and attendance repair status activity logs etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Schedule:
While the primary working hours for this position offer a 2nd shift schedule of 1:00 PM - 11:30 PM Tuesday through Friday the incumbent may be required to work a flexible schedule including additional nights and weekends based on the needs of the County.
PLEASE NOTE: In accordance with Federal Bureau of Investigations /Florida Department of Law Enforcement security policies the FBI/FDLE Criminal Justice Information Services Access Security Policy requires that all criminal justice agencies (including Broward Sheriffs Office State Attorneys Office and Medical Examiners Office) have documentation of enhanced background screening on file for all personnel who may conduct any type of unescorted work or duties within any location that Criminal Justice Information (CJI) is housed (i.e. any type of computer or computer system/network with direct access to CJI). Therefore this position may require (1) proof of state of residency and (2) passing and maintaining a Level 2 Background Screening.
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Performs the overhaul and servicing of refrigeration units by checking the repair replacement and adjustment of worn or broken parts on condensers compressors and water and vacuum pumps and the testing of refrigeration equipment for refrigerant leaks; performs the removal and replacement of motors pumps shafts and bearings.
Checks gauges and makes inspection for preventive maintenance; reads gauges and instruments determines temperature velocity and humidity factors using air and water temperature gauges; adjusts mechanisms such as valves controls and pumps to control level of fluid pressure and temperature; bleeds contaminants from system and charges with specified amount and type of refrigerant; checks gauges and makes periodic preventative maintenance inspections.
Maintains up-to-date records on job orders; maintains effective and efficient working conditions; tests refrigeration equipment for refrigerant leaks; removes and installs motors thermostats and humidistats; adjusts expansion valves; adjusts or changes belts; replaces gaskets hinges and hardware.
Repairs or adjusts valves piping connections fittings and couplings; performs the rebuilding repairs and painting of wood and metal cooling towers and fans.
Performs related work as assigned.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs medium work that involves walking standing stooping stretching or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill adeptness and speed in the use of fingers hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to radiation; disease/pathogens.
