The Senior Client Lead will be responsible for leading one or more of Edelman Japans most significant client relationships managing account teams and ensuring the delivery of high-quality work on time and within budget. This role will be accountable for deepening relationships within key client organizations driving organic growth and introducing the full range of Edelmans capabilities to enhance client impact and business success. The successful candidate will also mentor and develop the client service team to achieve consistent excellence.
This is a critical senior leadership role overseeing a portfolio of major accounts each with a revenue contribution of at least USD $1 million. The individual in this role must be a relationship builder strategic thinker and growth driver leveraging Edelmans integrated offerings across PR digital creative marketing and more. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to navigate both Japanese and Western business practices bringing a global mindset and experience working effectively across cultures. Experience with Japan-headquartered companies is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary relationship owner for one or more of Edelmans largest clients in Japan fostering long-term trusted partnerships.
Identify and pursue opportunities for organic growth by deeply understanding client businesses and challenges.
Introduce and integrate the full spectrum of Edelman capabilities to the client working with specialty teams as needed both in and outside Japan.
Ensure account delivery is on time on budget with business acumen and of consistently high quality.
Drive internal networking efforts to broaden Edelmans footprint within client organizations building relationships across departments and business units.
Guide mentor and inspire the client service team enhancing capability strategic thinking client service standards and directing talent to elevate and grow within the client portfolio.
Collaborate with leadership on commercial planning budgeting and forecasting for assigned accounts.
Provide strategic counsel to senior client stakeholders ensuring Edelman remains a proactive trusted advisor.
Actively contribute to Edelman Japans leadership team and support broader agency initiatives.

Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills with senior executives and key decision-makers.
Strategic thinking with a proactive approach to client challenges and opportunities.
Demonstrated experience delivering integrated marketing and communications programs.
Strong commercial and operational acumen including P&L ownership and project delivery oversight.
Excellent bilingual communication skills (English and Japanese) in both verbal and written formats.

Ability to navigate and thrive in matrixed and multinational environments.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or higher.
At least 15 years of experience in communications marketing or a related field.
Proven experience managing client accounts with annual revenue of at least USD $1 million.
Previous experience working with or within a Japan-headquartered company is highly desirable.
Deep knowledge of public relations and integrated marketing communications including digital tools and channels.
Bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese is mandatory.
