NICTD (Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District) is hiring 2 (two) Manager of Train Operations (MTO) to help lead manage and supervise real time operations within the Transportation Department. This is a unique career opportunity for overseeing NICTDs transportation operations and providing proactive participation in daily train operations. The successful applicant will be part of a close-knit team of dedicated transportation professionals who share a common interest in delivering safe and excellent passenger train service within Northwest Indiana and the Chicago metro area.Position Summary: Manager of Train Operations will report directly to the Assistant Chief Transportation Officer. Working closely with the Chief Operating Officer Chief Transportation Officer Assistant Chief Transportation Officer Terminal Superintendent Director of Training and Compliance other Managers of Train Operations Road Foreman of Engines Assistant Road Foreman of Engines Chief Dispatcher Trainmasters Dispatchers and the Passenger Communication Office. Providing daily proactive communication on real-time train performance and lead contact on incidents and accidents. Close coordination with CSS Metra supervisory personnel and NICTD Police is also required.Description of Duties:- Coordinating revenue operations:Coordinating safe and efficient revenue operations
- Improving operations:Implementing measures to improve operations
- Managing incidents:Leading recovery and investigation efforts during accidents or incidents
- Developing strategies:Developing operational strategies for construction and maintenance activities
- Collaborating with others:Collaborating with engineering mechanical and other personnel to make decisions
- Analyzing delay patterns and providing feedback and solutions for improvement including follow up actions to investigate on-time performance trends.
- Other duties as assigned based on the needs of Transportation
Basic Qualifications:- 21 Years of age or older.
- High school diploma or GED. Associate or bachelors degree preferred but not required.
- Self-motivated and interested in motivating others to focus on proper and safe work habits.
- Must display a personal history of working in a safe prudent and organized manner.
- Ability to accurately input data into computer systems including fluency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Awareness of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and knowledge of pertinent Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations.
- An expressed interest in aiding the District with multiple current and future projects.
- Satisfactory operating driving and attendance records.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all forms of weather.
- Ability to work varying shift schedules including nights and weekends as needed in support of the Districts operations.
Schedule: MTO will have hours and days off assigned by the Assistant Chief Transportation Officer. Schedules and assignments are subject to change based on the needs of the service and managerial staffing requirements. The MTO must expect and answer off-duty calls from other managers and employees as well as calls for help with situational emergencies.Supervision: The position reports to the Assistant Chief Transportation Officer.Work Environment: The employee will be in an office environment unless system requirements trigger a need to work in another indoor or outdoor work area. The noise level ranges from quiet to moderately loud. The employee must adhere to red zone protocols in the OCC theater.Salary and Benefits: The expected salary range is $95000-$100000. Credit for time served in other railroad employment including approved military leaves will be applied in determining vacation day entitlements.
