Job Description

Position: Laboratory Scientist Operations (Non-Supervisory)
Location: Raritan NJ (occasional travel approx. once a year to Spring House for events)
Duration: 08/04/2025 to 12/31/2025
Experience Required: 0 5 years
The Challenge:
Emerging Technologies Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) is seeking a Laboratory Scientist to support operations in an innovation sandbox laboratory dedicated to advancing biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes. The role focuses on hands-on laboratory experimentation evaluation of new manufacturing technologies and support of small-scale manufacturing unit operations.
The ideal candidate will have a background in cell culture analytical chemistry biology physical chemistry and statistics and will be comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Laboratory Operations & Experiments
Conduct reduced-scale biotherapeutic unit operations including:
o Preculture from vial to wavebag
o Daily offline sampling for preculture and cell culture
o Basic bioreactor operations (daily sampling calibration of pH DO and PAT sensors)
o Setup and teardown of bioreactors
o Preparation for other unit operations such as harvest filtration and downstream purification columns
Perform laboratory-scale techniques related to biopharmaceutical manufacturing including:
o Preculture cell culture harvest bioreactors column chromatography mixing (up to 5L)
o Use of spectroscopy PAT sensors infrared and Raman spectroscopy
Execute laboratory experiments from notebook protocols under the guidance of senior scientists.
Data Management & Reporting
Summarize and document results in electronic notebooks.
Audit and maintain records across multiple data systems.
Prepare written reports Excel summaries and PowerPoint presentations to communicate findings.
Laboratory Maintenance & Compliance
Oversee laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration.
Perform laboratory safety inspections and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
Support equipment qualification processes and maintain work instructions.
Manage consumables inventory and handle point-of-use purchase orders.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Biology Chemistry Biochemistry Chemical Engineering).
0 5 years of laboratory experience preferably in biopharmaceutical manufacturing or a related field.
Strong understanding of cell culture and related analytical methods.
Coursework in analytical chemistry biology physical chemistry and statistics.
Familiarity with Process Analytical Technology (PAT) sensors and spectroscopy techniques is preferred.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
