Job Description

The Legal Counsel Regulatory & Disputes is responsible for management of legal matters relating to Rest including providing legal advice to Rest Business Units Board and management regarding Rests legal rights and duties; and managing Legal Counsel direct reports with a specific focus on regulatory and disputes.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on regulatory and licensing obligations and support business compliance.
  • Liaise with regulators (ASIC APRA) including managing communications reports and presentations for prudential reviews.
  • Manage disputes and litigation including coordination with external legal counsel.
  • Advise leadership on regulatory impacts to strategic decisions and business operations.
  • Monitor and communicate regulatory changes relevant to Rest.
  • Provide guidance on Rests licences representative activities and regulatory reporting frameworks.
  • Support executive and board responses to government and regulatory inquiries.
  • Represent Rest in industry forums and share relevant insights with internal stakeholders.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor of Laws or relevant degree with admission in an Australian jurisdiction and a current practising certificate.
  • Demonstrated experience within a similar role ideally in financial services or superannuation.
  • Strong analytical research and commercial acumen with the ability to assess legal and risk implications.
  • In-depth knowledge of superannuation law and trustee obligations.
  • Skilled in clear plain-English legal drafting.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Experience handling litigated claims.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels and with strategic partners.
