Job Summary:
This role focuses on ensuring timely and accurate financial processing for emergency room patients. The Emergency Financial Representative is responsible for patient registration insurance verification securing upfront payments and establishing payment arrangements to minimize bad debt. The representative will also assist patients in accessing financial assistance programs. This position requires strong communication organizational and analytical skills along with a thorough understanding of healthcare insurance and financial regulations.

Responsibilities:
- Patient registration and demographic data entry.
- Insurance verification and eligibility determination.
- Upfront point-of-service (POS) collections.
- Establishing payment arrangements for outstanding balances.
- Assisting patients with applications for financial assistance programs (Medi-Cal Uncompensated Care Hospital Presumptive Eligibility etc.).
- Maintaining accurate financial records and documentation.
- Communicating effectively with patients providers and insurance companies.
- Adhering to HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Meeting daily registration and collection targets.
- Following up on outstanding accounts.
- Completing required training and certifications.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum of two years of experience in front office/medical billing and/or hospital registration/admitting.
- Minimum of two years of experience in insurance verification and/or medical/hospital billing.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of eligibility requirements for various financial assistance programs (Medi-Cal Hospital Presumptive Eligibility Program Medicare Covered California Cobra limited benefit plans VVC and Uncompensated Care Programs).
- Medical terminology knowledge.
- Strong computer skills including typing 45 wpm and proficiency in MS Office programs.
- Excellent communication organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced high-pressure environment.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Certification (within three months of hire).
- LA City Fire Card (within two weeks of employment PIHGS Only).
- EMTALA knowledge and experience.
- Stringent adherence to all privacy policies and procedures including HIPAA regulations.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Bilingual skills.
- Continuing education in Finance Accounting or Business Administration.
