What We Are Looking For:

Aird & Berlis LLP is looking for a Payroll & Benefits Coordinator who will support the Payroll Manager and will assist in processing all payroll and compensation for the firm and administering the benefit programs. Candidates require a minimum of 2 years experience processing full cycle payroll preferably in a law firm. The ideal candidate must be highly organized detail oriented and have the ability to work with and identify confidential information. The successful candidate should be a strong team player with customer service mentality for both internal and external clients as well as a strong sense of urgency is essential in this role.

Responsibilities:

Payroll

  • Process semi-monthly payroll.
  • Update payroll system (UKG) with new hires terminations salary increases promotions status changes leave of absences and other changes as directed;
  • Validate reconcile and remit all payroll deductions statutory withholdings and source deductions (EI CPP Tax EHT) and communicate with Government agencies as required;
  • Prepare monthly payroll journals;
  • Reconcile all payroll related balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Complete year-end payroll process enter year-end adjustments and prepare/file T4;
  • Prepare Record Of Employment (ROEs) and submit to Service Canada;

Benefits

  • Enroll Firm members in applicable benefits as directed and set up accordingly in payroll;
  • Analyze and reconcile monthly benefit invoices (Health & Dental AD&D LTD) and provide to Management for approval;
  • Administer the Firms RRSP including tracking eligibility dates providing enrolment details to members processing through payroll;
  • Analyze and reconcile RRSP monthly and provide to Management for approval;

Other

  • Provide timely responses to confidential inquiries from all levels of the Firm for matters related to payroll compensation and benefits administration; and
  • Supports Payroll Manager and other departmental Directors in annual salary review and budgeting process.
  • Maintain all confidential records support documentation forms files and working papers in Imanage for audit purposes.
  • May be required to perform other payroll and benefit duties as required within the scope of the role.
  • Support various payroll and benefits projects and initiatives as required.

Requirements:

  • Experience in legal or professional services is preferred
  • Post-secondary and/or professional training in Accounting Payroll Human Resources or related field;
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a similar capacity preferably in a law firm;
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation;
  • Sound knowledge of legislation relevant to employment practices and payroll administration;
  • Proficient in the following computer program: Microsoft Office Suite (Advanced Excel) Payroll and HRIS System (UKG preferred); Document Management Systems (Imanage);
  • Ability to multi-task and handle competing demands
