NYE also serves as a leading Community-Based Organization (CBO) in the NYC Community Schools initiative partnering with school leadership to coordinate integrated supports such as expanded learning family engagement and wellness services to ensure students and families have access to comprehensive school-based resources.

SUMMARY

New York Edge is seeking a passionate knowledgeable and mission-driven individual to serve as Program Manager of After-School this full-time role you will oversee the operation and success of 7-9 comprehensive after-school programs serving students in grades K8 across the five boroughs. Responsibilities include ensuring contract compliance implementing enrichment activities and fostering strong school partnerships through active participation in school events. You will supervise and support Program Directors collaborate with the NYE recruitment team to ensure all sites are fully staffed schedule and coordinate program activities and manage recordkeeping reporting and budgeting. The role also involves planning and organizing special and culminating events ensuring participation in NYE-led organizational initiatives and providing training and professional development to site staff. This position reports directly to the Borough Director of Program Operations.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Staffing and Recruitment

  • Collaborate with the Human Resources department to support equitable and inclusive staff recruitment ensuring hiring practices reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.

  • Prioritize staff retention through consistent performance management mentorship and recognition strategies that foster a culture of professional growth and accountability.

  • Monitor staffing levels across all sites within the assigned portfolio; maintain up-to-date knowledge of current personnel and anticipate future hiring or coverage needs.

  • Act promptly to address staffing challenges escalating concerns to the Borough Director to ensure uninterrupted program operations and student safety.

  • Serve as Acting Afterschool Program Director during the absence of the designated site leader ensuring daily operations remain compliant with organizational and funder policies.

Branding and Internal Collaboration

  • Ensure all branding elements including logos color schemes and marketing designs are consistent with New York Edge (NYE) and funder guidelines.

  • Actively collaborate with internal departmentssuch as Development Compliance Data Communications and Financeto enhance program efficiency resource utilization and cross-functional synergy.

Training and Development

  • Provide training and onboarding for Program Directors focusing on recruitment scheduling staffing program design and NYEs core philosophy.

  • Promote and monitor staff participation in ongoing professional development fostering a learning culture and driving improvements in program quality and team effectiveness.

  • Facilitate risk management training across all sites to equip staff with proactive strategies for mitigating incidents and maintaining safety.

  • Lead training sessions in cultural competency and responsiveness to enhance staff understanding and engagement with the diverse communities served.

  • Conduct regular staff performance evaluations and utilize supportive supervision practices to drive accountability provide feedback and cultivate leadership potential.

  • Develop and implement staff engagement strategies including coaching mentorship and professional growth pathways.

  • Build a workplace culture rooted in mutual respect psychological safety and individual empowerment.

Compliance and Administrative Oversight

  • Review and approve all payroll timesheets for direct and indirect reports ensuring accurate and timely payroll submissions.

  • Participate in weekly leadership and cross-departmental meetings with Directors Program Managers HR Finance and other departments to ensure alignment on priorities and operations.

  • Ensure all sites under supervision remain fully compliant with regulations and guidelines set by DYCD DOE and DOHMH including adherence to evolving pandemic management protocols.

  • Partner with budget analysts and the finance department to oversee program budgets approve expenses and manage reimbursements in accordance with fiscal policies.

  • Establish clear communication channels with internal departments to streamline administrative responsibilities and address operational needs promptly.

  • Lead site-level responses to incidents involving staff or students and escalate serious matters to the appropriate NYE departments (HR Compliance etc.) for further resolution.

  • Collaborate with funders school leaders and external stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure transparent reporting of incidents aligned with NYE standards and community expectations.

  • Ensure all program staff are trained in and follow procedures for student arrival transition and dismissal including strict adherence to participant supervision protocols and authorized pick-up identification.

  • Immediately notify Borough Directors or Department Heads of significant staff discontent or concerns that may impact operations especially if related to organizational policies directives or leadership decisions.

Program Design and Evaluation

  • Conduct routine site visits to assess program delivery provide constructive feedback to site leadership and establish improvement goals aligned with funder and NYE expectations.

  • Work collaboratively with Program Directors school administrators and stakeholders to meet and exceed enrollment targets and Rate of Participation (ROP) benchmarks.

  • Design and evaluate program activities that reflect community interests integrate student voice and choice and align with NYEs mission and performance standards.

  • Implement and uphold best practices across all programming maintaining fidelity to NYE procedures and funder requirements.

  • Lead the development of cross-functional work plans in collaboration with NYE departments school partners and program teams to support shared objectives.

Community Engagement and Visibility

  • Strengthen relationships between afterschool program staff and school leadership to support program implementation continuity and school-wide collaboration.

  • Organize and participate in community events to enhance the visibility of NYE programs and deepen community engagement.

  • Foster strong connections with families students and community-based organizations to ensure programs remain relevant and responsive to local needs.

  • Work with school principals to secure in-kind resources supplemental DOE funding (e.g. Purchase Orders) and other supports to expand and enrich programming.

  • Engage with external service providers (e.g. mental health vision care housing/legal aid) to bring holistic wraparound supports to participants and their families.

  • Provide accurate school-specific data and insights to NYEs Development team and grant writers to support the preparation of compelling competitive proposals in response to funding opportunities (RFPs).

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree required with preference in Education Psychology Youth Development Human/Social Service or Social Work

  • Minimum 5 years managing an after-school or summer camp program

  • 3 to 5 years managing multi-site programs preferred

  • Minimum 3 years of work experience within urban education including supervisory experience

  • School Age Child Care License eligible and or certified preferred
