Job Description

Position Announcement: NJC Technical Systems Specialist

Northeastern Junior College is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Technical Systems Specialist. This position is responsible for the installation of new desktop and mobile computing hardware software and peripherals standard configurations based on the types of devices that best fit the customers addition will document these processes as well as maintain an accurate inventory of all desktop computing and mobile device hardware software and peripherals. The position will manage drive encryption malware protection software and participate in statewide cybersecurity team. This position is also responsible for the IT Help Desk including duties of answering the help desk phone line for faculty staff and students. Help desk duties include tracking all work orders using a help desk ticket tracking system. The position creates and manages users accounts and access. This position will also work closely with other areas of the IT department to assist in the delivery of College applications. Perform web updates for the portal mobile portal app and the technology web page. This position is technology independent and will be utilizing Microsoft. Apple and Android operating systems as well as third-party applications.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be:

  1. Install update customize and maintain hardware and software for all desktop computers notebook computers including all peripherals accessories and printing devices.
  2. Perform pro-active maintenance including virus and malware removal as well as application and operating system patches and upgrades. Configure all devices to communicate over TCP-IP networks.
  3. Research and evaluate deployment and management systems and processes. Develop and document deployment processes for all operating systems and third-party applications. Position requires script creation to deploy software via Microsoft InTune and Microsoft SCCM.
  4. Determine the most efficient procedures for maintaining software and then utilize them to keep applications up to date.
  5. Install and manage drive encryption malware protection software and participate on statewide Cybersecurity team at the system level.
  6. Help Desk duties include managing the IT Help Desk line as it provides all faculty staff and students on campus with computer support for college owned technology equipment.
  7. Provide technical consultation to faculty and staff including analyzing diagnosing troubleshooting researching and solving problems encountered by users.
  8. Help Desk duties will include tracking and using a work order system to track all tickets and calls.
  9. Help Desk tasks will include password resets troubleshooting student logins to NJC Computer systems Access NJC Student e-mail software troubleshooting hardware troubleshooting etc.
  10. Create manage and maintain printer setups on all campus computing platforms.
  11. Troubleshoot analyze isolate and resolve all technical issues whether software hardware peripheral network or user related; either in person or by utilizing remote access tools.
  12. Assist in installing and maintaining Local Area Networks (LAN) Wide Area Networks (WAN) and Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN).
  13. Web presence duties include creating deploying and managing the Access NJC portal channels and Access NJC mobile application.
  14. Write detailed documentation and technical steps for resolving help desk tickets and calls.
  15. Perform problem tracking and issue resolution prioritization utilizing the IT Support Desk software and ticketing applications.
  16. Create and document deployment processes for Microsoft Apple and Android operating systems as well as third-party applications.
  17. Create and manage all user accounts for Northeastern in the CCC domain. Includes e-mail and distribution lists security groups and all file access local and on M365.
  18. Provide hands-on training to end users relating to new users new desktops and mobile computing hardware.

What You Will Need:

  1. Strong computer and technology troubleshooting skills including Microsoft Windows 11 Apple iOS and OS and use of the Microsoft Office Suite and Office 365.
  2. Experience with or understanding of Microsoft System Center and Microsoft InTune for deploying and managing operating systems and applications.
  3. Have solid working knowledge using and configuring LAN WLAN VPN CAT5/6 DNS DHCP TCP/IP and other currently utilized system protocols.
  4. Excellent written and oral communications skills. The ability to work effectively with students staff faculty administrators and the public. Ability to work both individually and as a member of a team. Ability to work quickly and accurately to complete tasks. Ability to work well with people who have a wide variety of technical skills and able to adapt training to address those skill levels. Ability to multitask and adjust quickly to needs of administration faculty and staff at Northeastern.
  5. Effective verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.

This is a full-time professional position. Annual salary is $45000-$50000 depending on qualifications and experience.
