The role
The Financial Times is hiring a new energy correspondent.
Energy is one of the most consequential and dynamic beats at the FT sitting at the intersection of geopolitics markets climate and corporate strategy.
From the workings of Opec to Europes struggling transition away from fossil fuels energy is reshaping economies and political alliances and we are looking for a journalist who can chronicle these changes with depth authority and flair.
You will be responsible for both coverage of the oil and gas markets and coverage of some of the worlds biggest energy producers working closely with the regional correspondents and the energy team in the US.
Your reporting will also span geopolitics energy security infrastructure and policy shifts in major economies as well as new technologies across all sectors such as carbon capture new fuels small modular reactors or nuclear fusion.
The role includes everything from breaking news and corporate scoops to deep investigative features and international reporting trips. The energy transition is one of the FTs most important cross-disciplinary themes and youll work closely with colleagues across Markets Companies Climate Capital and Visual/Data journalism.

The use of AI
Original reporting great writing and intelligent commentary lie at the heart of FT journalism. Our readers trust us to produce quality journalism that is accurate fair and insightful. This is why FT editorial staff do not use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to write articles or create other reader-facing content. For specific and pre-approved cases AI can be harnessed for certain tasks such as assisting data research for investigations.
We expect applicants to the FT newsroom to refrain from using AI in their test submissions and any written materials should be a genuine reflection of their own knowledge skills and experiences. We encourage candidates only to employ AI as a tool to help with research and interview readiness for a role.

FT Newsroom staff are expected to work onsite a minimum of three days per week subject to role requirements and regular review. While flexible working requests will be considered not all patterns are suitable for Editorial roles.
