Krero m te tranga - About the role

TeHerenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellingtonis currently recruiting a Kaiakiaki - Mori Engagement Adviser to join the whina - Mori Student Support team on a permanent full-time basis. This position will be supporting tauira Mori studying inTe Whanga Aronui - Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciencesand will be based in the Ng Mokopuna. The whina team is a key part of the on-campus support whnau for tauira Mori that encourages cultural confidence and academic success.

Key responsibilities:

  • Student support and engagement.
  • Event planning and delivery.
  • Cultural support.
  • Teamwork and relationship building.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting Mori students during their educational journey.

You will:

  • Be comfortable working with Mori students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Providing one on one support and advice and organising and delivering workshops and events.
  • Be advocating for Mori student as necessary.
  • A highly organised innovative and self-motivated person.
  • Have proven experience of collaboration and communication across diverse cohorts.
  • Be a team player who thrives in a busy environment.

Key requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of tikanga Mori.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in an educational context.
  • Knowledge of university or tertiary education environment and issues relating to Mori students.
  • The ability to build and maintain strong robust relationships.
  • Capability to work as part of a team as well as having individual responsibilities.
  • Ideally have sound knowledge and understanding of te reo Mori and experience working within the tertiary sector.
