Digital Communications Manager China

Role Purpose

The Digital Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing the digital communications strategy for British Council China.

The successful candidate will work closely with key internal stakeholders external agencies and partners to boost British Councils brand and reputation on Chinese social media platforms targeting a wide range of audiences across China.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

Strategy and Planning

  • Develop the digital strategy for British Council China ensuring it is in alignment with the China Communications Strategy and global digital channel and audience engagement strategy.
  • Lead on effective forward-planning by working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to identify impactful digital opportunities.
  • Lead and manage digital content on owned channels including web and social media.
  • Develop digital campaigns throughout the year to create impact.

Effective digital communications delivery

  • Own and manage the effective delivery of 2-3 digital growth campaigns and activities in China with pre-determined KPIs
  • Develop creative content across all British Council China corporate social channels.
  • Localise global / regional campaigns to cater to different audience groups in China.
  • Work in tandem with sector teams to actively advise and coordinate on social content calendar and strategy for channels owned by the Business Units.

Analysis and evaluation

  • Review data-based impact (reach engagement follower growth) and effectiveness of country digital channels and initiatives and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Work towards set KPIs web traffic bounce rate on British Council China website.
  • Review and assess digital performance on a monthly and quarterly basis and suggest optimisation measures if necessary.

Digital expertise and insights

  • Provide expert advice support and challenge on digital communications to colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • Familiar with all mainstream social platforms in China and have a clear understanding of the different groups of target audiences of the British Council on each platform as well as the types of content that will be of interest to them.
  • Keep up to date on latest social trends particularly in China.

Stakeholder financial and brand management

  • Ensure solid and beneficial relationships with marketing and communications professionals.
  • Develop peer / personal networks in both an internal and external capacity to enhance own knowledge and expertise.
  • Proactively build and maintain excellent relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Role specific knowledge and skills

  • Demonstrable experience in managing digital communications within a large and complex organisation or agency.
  • Creative approach to implementing and evaluating communication activities across various Chinese social media channels.
  • Experience in managing and mitigating digital communications risks and issues.

Minimum requirements

  • Fluent in Chinese and English
  • Relevant degree e.g. communications journalism marketing or equivalent level of experience

Desirable:

  • Experience in a global / matrix organisation.
