Krero m te tranga - About the role

TeHerenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Pkenga/ Pkenga Matua Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Academic Development to join our Te Ktuinga Mtauranga - Centre for Academic Development team. The role provides support to faculties in their academic work particularly in regard to the faculties programmes of learning and teaching and in the development of the capabilities of faculty staff to undertake those programmes.

In this role you will work collaboratively with members the wider team to ensure the success of Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellingtons academic work by undertaking a range of responsibilities including:

  • Advice and support for academic activities and development.
  • Support for development of staff capabilities for academic practice.
  • Provide input into learning and teaching standards policies and practices.

You will be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team. Your work with academics and professional staff will draw on your prior experience with university teaching and academic work in previous roles. You will need effective time management and forward planning to balance meeting deadlines and engaging effectively with users across the University environment.

Key requirements:

  • Relevant experience in teaching in a university setting preferably with a background in teaching that focuses on Mtauranga Mori and preferably in an academic or senior tutor role.
  • A postgraduate qualification preferably a doctorate.
  • Experience working with Mori academics and students improving the quality of University teaching and learning.
  • Proficiency in te reo Mori would be an advantage.
  • Experience in and a good understanding of academic processes and workloads.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills with the ability to express complex matters in a concise and easily understandable manner to different target groups.
  • Knowledge and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equal opportunities.
  • Proven experience in the use of digital technologies for teaching and learning in tertiary education.
