JPMorgan Chase & Co.(NYSE: JPM) is a leading global financial services firm with assets of $2 trillion and operations in more than 60 countries. The firm is a leader in investment banking financial services for consumers small business and commercial banking financial transaction processing and asset management. The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for providing legal services to the Corporation and is organized by Practice Groups that generally conform to the Corporations lines of business (LOBs) and corporate staff areas. This structure facilitates the communication of legal and regulatory changes by the legal team to the businesses and the communication by the LOBs of business developments to the legal teams in a timely manner.

JPMorgan Chase is seeking an attorney with at least five years experience to provide legal support for the JPMorgan Asset Management (Canada) Inc. (JPMAMC) business with particular responsibility for JPMAMCs exchange-traded funds (ETFs) private institutional funds and separate accounts.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal and regulatory advice in connection with JPMAMC products (e.g. ETFs private institutional funds separate accounts and sub-advisory accounts).

  • This role requires working closely with Product Development Sales and Portfolio Managers on the launch of new ETFs and private funds and provide on-going support for existing funds (primarily equity-oriented strategies).

  • Work with Sales and Client Account Management teams on negotiation of investment management agreements fund subscription agreements sub-advisory agreements wrappers and other account-opening documents with institutional clients including benefit plans endowments and foundations and insurance companies.

  • Create and support maintenance of agreements between JPMAMC and its affiliated service providers.

  • Support placement of Canadian institutional clients in foreign funds offered by JPMAMC affiliates.

  • Support JPMAMC Board of Directors in coordination with JPMs Office of the Secretary.

  • Provide advice in connection with Canadian securities and investment laws including the National Instrument 31-103 the National Instrument 81-102 and provincial legislation (including pension regulations).

  • Partner with Product teams Compliance Tax Controls and Risk leadership to (i) support business objectives and analyze discreate issues that arise from time to time and (ii) support well-run controlled and compliant operations.

  • Partner with colleagues across the Legal Department including teams in the Americas Europe and Asia.

  • All other duties as necessary or assigned to provide high caliber line of business legal support.

Required qualifications capabilities and skills

  • JD from an accredited law school.

  • Canadian bar admission required.

  • Top-tier law firm experience preferred.

  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrable asset management expertise including experience in ETFs.

  • The confidence and interpersonal and networking skills necessary for effective interaction with business clients at all levels other parts of the firm and external parties.

  • Strong analytical organizational communication and negotiating skills.

  • Proficient in French.
