Overview
A well-established and highly regarded law firm is seeking an experienced Trusts Lawyer to join its busy team in Stamford. This is a fantastic opportunity for a specialist in trust work or for an experienced private client lawyer with a strong background in trusts who is looking to focus their career in this area. The firm has one of the largest private client teams in the region providing high-quality advice and support to a diverse range of clients.
The Role
You will work closely with senior members of the team providing expert advice and handling a wide range of trust-related matters. The position offers the chance to manage complex and rewarding work while collaborating with colleagues and other professional advisers.
Key Responsibilities
Advise clients and colleagues on the creation administration and termination of new and existing trusts
Handle general trust administration including:
Drafting deeds and related documentation
Preparing trust tax returns and accounts
Using HMRCs Trust Registration Service
Provide advice on Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax planning
Advise on Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief
Prepare Declarations of Trust
Collaborate with other departments and external advisers on trust-related matters
Assist with will drafting particularly those involving trusts for complex family arrangements
Support the administration of both taxable and non-taxable estates
Contribute to business development and marketing activities to promote the department
Person Specification
Essential
Solicitor or Legal Executive
Significant experience in tax and trust matters
Strong interest in trusts and private client work
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Commercial awareness and the ability to explain complex issues to non-specialists
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
Knowledge of the conveyancing process Money Laundering Regulations and Solicitors Accounts Rules
IT literate with experience of case management systems
Desirable
STEP Diploma (or willingness to study towards it)
Experience using SOS Connect
Marketing and business development skills
