TheAlternative to Suspension Supervisor is charged with managing students who are temporarily removed from the classroom for discipline or health related reasons. This is a 10 month position with summer off.
The Alternative to Suspension (ATS) Teacher plays a critical role in supporting student behavioral growth reducing repeat infractions and fostering a positive school climate. The ATS Teacher works directly with students assigned to in-school suspension providing academic support social-emotional skill development and restorative interventions. This position requires strong relationship-building skills data tracking and active collaboration with administrators teachers families and the RTI (Response to Intervention) team to create and monitor effective behavioral and safety plans.
Student Support & Supervision
Receive and supervise students assigned to in-school suspension in a structured safe and supportive environment.
Conduct regular check-ins with assigned students to address behavioral concerns emotional needs and academic progress.
Provide social-emotional learning (SEL) workshops and activities focused on self-regulation conflict resolution empathy and decision-making skills.
Ensure students remain engaged in academic work assigned by classroom teachers.
Maintain a calm respectful and restorative atmosphere to encourage reflection and personal growth.
Data Tracking & Reporting
Track all student referrals and behavioral data for those assigned to ATS.
Record and maintain accurate documentation of incidents interventions and student progress in school-approved systems.
Provide weekly data updates to the Assistant Principal including trends and intervention effectiveness.
Analyze data to identify patterns and make recommendations for targeted interventions.
Communication & Collaboration
Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians regarding student behavior and progress.
Collaborate with teachers to ensure students complete missed assignments and transition smoothly back to class.
Participate as an active member of the RTI team providing behavioral updates and input for intervention planning.
Assist in developing and monitoring student safety plans and behavior intervention plans.
Restorative & Preventative Practices
Implement restorative justice practices to address conflicts and repair relationships.
Help students set personal goals and develop strategies to avoid repeated infractions.
Facilitate peer mediation or re-entry meetings as needed.
Professional Responsibilities
Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA and school policies.
Attend professional development related to behavior management SEL trauma-informed practices and restorative justice.
Support school-wide initiatives to improve attendance behavior and academic achievement.
Assist with school duties and events as assigned by administration.
Bachelors degree in Education or related field.
Relevant experience in student support roles.
Experience working with middle school students in an urban school setting.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.
Knowledge of SEL frameworks restorative justice practices and behavior intervention strategies.
