The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement correctional services policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs as well as programs and services to support victims of crime including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention mitigation preparedness response and recovery programs and initiatives through the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA).

For further information visit the ministry website at: to the Senior Assistant Deputy Minister and Managing Director Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) the Executive Director Recovery has a critical leadership role within the Agency; which is accountable and responsible to the Government of Alberta (GoA) and the public for maintaining the provincial emergency management system guiding the provinces recovery efforts following disasters and emergencies. The Executive Director will ensure the effective coordination and delivery of disaster financial assistance programs and recovery supports across a decentralized emergency management system while advancing a sustainable integrated model for long-term recovery. The Executive Director will be a key member of AEMA and strengthen the Albertas public safety system by aligning recovery operations with strategic goals fiscal accountability and collaborative partnerships across all levels of government and community stakeholders.

Alberta relies on the Alberta Incident Management System (AIMS) a decentralized framework for managing the various emergency incidents and disasters that occur across the province. The system is made up of many diverse stakeholders and partners including government ministries local authorities industry First Nations and Metis Settlements. AEMA accomplishes its objectives by leading the coordination collaboration and cooperation between all entities involved in the prevention preparedness response and recovery activities within this diverse partnership to achieve optimal levels of system performance and best-possible outcomes.

Qualifications

As Executive Director your background includes extensive related senior management experience with strengths in senior leadership briefings complex stakeholder management and policy development interpretation and implementation. You are a recognized leader who is agile and politically astute with expert knowledge of federal assistance arrangements and provincial recovery programs. You develop new initiatives to improve provincial and community recovery capacity and oversee the development of recovery metrics and measurement strategies to inform business decisions. You are highly skilled at building relationships and influencing decisions while balancing the needs and interests of diverse cross-ministry and provincial stakeholders. You are politically perceptive and have a broad level of experience dealing with the public media and senior officials. Your advanced level experience in preparing briefings for Cabinet and budget committees enables you to lead policy development. Your excellent communication skills will be essential to your success in this role. A bachelors degree in public business administration emergency/disaster management or social sciences combined with significant senior leadership experience is required; a masters degree is preferred.

Salary

$5234.94- $6879.68 bi-weekly ($136631 - $179559 yearly)
