Working under the direction of the Operational Manager and in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team this casual Diet Technician position supports patients at Toronto General Hospital and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Duties:

The responsibilities of the Diet Technician include: assisting the Clinical Dietitians in providing patient-centered nutrition addition the Diet Technician performs a variety of activities to ensure the efficient and effective provision of nutrition care including educational and QA responsibilities on-going communication with the supervising dietitian and other key players including Nutrition Services to ensure information is completed in a timely fashion.


Qualifications :

 

  • Completion of a Community College Diploma program in Food and Nutrition or recognized equivalent
  • Completion of a degree in Food and Nutrition from a recognized university is preferred
  • One year related experience is preferred
  • Experience working in a teaching hospital environment is preferred
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Completion of the written examination to obtain membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition management (C.S.N.M) is required within the first year of employment
  • Therapeutic nutrition knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge of food preparation and food allergies
  • Knowledge of CBORD/Diet Office management
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and patient service skills
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-orientated environment
  • Ability to focus on priorities
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Compliance with confidentiality
  • Client service oriented with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions background and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
