Job Description:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Support
Provides direct support in the planning and implementation of ongoing and new activities/
programs/initiatives offering creative ideas and operational insights to the process.
Provides direct support in the delivery of programs; including but not limited to Boundless
Academy Alpha Coding Club Summer Camps Family Fun Night Thursday Brunch
Back-to-School-Supplies program Parents n Tots Program Drop-in Dance program.
Collaborates with Community Engagement/Volunteer Coordinator to ensure programs are
marketed and advertised accurately according to policies and in a timely fashion.
Provides direct support with registration processes for regular and special programs/activities
as assigned.

Tracks statistics and compiles basic reports on specific programs/activities as directed.

In the delivery of programs works in accordance with established facility schedules ensuring
overlaps are effectively managed and issues proactively addressed.
Supports set-up and take-down of activity spaces (Some cleaning supports may be required.)
Consistently demonstrates respect and empathy for all guests/program participants.
May perform front line duties in the absence of the Community Ministries Administrative
Support Worker such as answer and screen telephone calls direct and answer inquiries greet
and escort visitors resolve routine inquiries open/distribute mail receiving monetary or gift-
in-kind donations and process to Operations Manager etc.
May assume responsibility for Community Ministries intake services client assessment and
emergency assistance in the absence of the Community Ministries Administrative Support
Worker. May distribute food and emergency food hampers to individuals and families in
accordance with follow-up will accurately record and report relevant information in
Link2Feed and guest files.
May provide hands-on food services assistance as needed for Thursday Brunch and/or
Family Fun Night.

Christmas Kettle Campaign
In collaboration with the Manager of Integrated Mission and the Kettle Campaign Committee
gives direct oversight to the Ministry Units annual Christmas Kettle Campaign (October
through January).
Working in close collaboration with the Operations Manager oversees the recruitment
selection orientation and ongoing supervision of Kettle team members (employees and
volunteers) including drivers kettle hosts and volunteer counters.
Plans and leads Kettle Host training session(s).
In collaboration with the Community Engagement/Volunteer Coordinator works diligently to
build the volunteer base for the Kettle Campaign (both individuals and groups) and deploys
volunteers effectively.
Oversees relationships with host sites coordinates Campaign scheduling and ensures
appropriate/meaningful thanks is extended to each supporting organization during and after
the Campaign.
Ensures needed Kettle Campaign supplies are created/ordered/secured in a timely manner.
Orders receives and implements the use of Tip Tap machines for the duration of the Campaign
and packs and returns within specified deadline.
Coordinates the delivery set up and take down of kettle stands buckets and Tip Tap machines.
Creates and effectively trouble-shoots Kettle schedules to ensure maximum coverage so that
Campaign goals are realized or exceeded.
Coordinates drop-offs and pick-ups of all kettles/buckets daily during the Campaign in
accordance with established schedules.
Plans for an effective volunteer appreciation event post-Campaign.
Ensures kettle campaign supplies inventory is updated post-Campaign.
Performs other job-related duties as required to ensure a safe and secure environment.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Governance Boards and Councils: None
Internal: MU Lead and staff guests volunteers congregation members.
External: May communicate with community members police and other social service agencies.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
Reports directly to the Manager of Integrated Mission.
Direct reports for this position: Some program volunteers and Kettle Campaign employees/

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
Minor material responsibility (occasionally receiving and ensuring proper use of materials
some limited access to private and confidential information).
May be accountable for operating and/or maintaining specialized equipment.
Responsible for receiving handling of Kettle Campaign funds and other monetary or gift-in-kind
donations.
The incumbent has no input into the annual budget.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The incumbents work environment is an office setting.
The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:
Stressful situations including dealing with erratic and sometimes antagonistic behaviours
Verbal abuse
Work schedule affecting lifestyle
Some local travel required for Kettle Campaign.
The incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illness due to:
Physical attacks by others
Exposure to infectious diseases
Sharp objects
Driving in winter weather (heavy rainfall sometimes snowy conditions)
Moderate physical exertion causing fatigue; may be required to lift up to 30 pounds.
The performance of the job requires frequently interacting with guests attentive listening and
moderate attention when recording information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Qualifications and Certifications:
Completion of a high school diploma plus a formal certificate program or specialized courses of
one year is required.
First Aid level 1 and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training or willingness to complete once hired.
Food Safe Level I.
Class 5 Drivers License or in process of obtaining.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
The incumbent must have a minimum of two years of related experience.

Skills and Capabilities:
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The
Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Work in compliance with Health and Safety Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys
health and safety policies and procedures.
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check clearance.
Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.
Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Creative planning and organizational skills strong initiative collaborative team focus
Strong understanding of professional boundaries when working with a vulnerable population.

Hours of Work
35 hrs/wk January through October and up to 40 hrs/wk mid-November through December (for
Kettle Campaign oversight).
Flexibility on work schedule for evening programs and throughout Christmas Kettle Campaign.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $21.66 with a maximum of $25.99.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
