Description

Position Overview:

The Madison County States Attorneys Office is seeking a qualified and dedicated Paralegal to support its Civil Division. The selected candidate will primarily assist attorneys in providing legal services to Madison County Government including legal research document drafting FOIA response management and coordination and administrative support. The successful candidate will have a strong ability to handle a diverse range of issues attention to detail excellent writing and research skills proper organizational skills and a strong commitment to public service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist attorneys in general and sensitive/confidential civil matters including but not limited to employment and labor matters FOIA responses contract review real estate transactions and local government issues.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents including contracts ordinances resolutions legal memoranda and pleadings.
  • Perform legal research and document review and provide written summaries of findings.
  • Assist in managing and coordinating responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests in compliance with applicable law and communication with internal and external departments divisions and agencies.
  • Maintain organized case files and legal records track deadlines hearings and other important dates.
  • Support attorneys during administrative hearings board meetings or court proceedings as required.
  • Assist office management with general grant acquisition and compliance requirements.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate degree in a Paralegal Studies or a Bachelors degree in a related field with a Paralegal Certificate is required. (Certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred.)
  • Experience:Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a paralegal in a legal office preferably in a civil government or litigation setting (or substantially similar office environment) is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong analytical reasoning and problem-solving ability; research and writing skills; basic mathematical skills; excellent communication and interpersonal abilities in a professional environment and proficiency in modern legal research and writing tools and software as well as Microsoft Office tools.

Work Environment:

This is an in-person office-based position located in the Madison County Administration Building in Edwardsville Illinois. Remote work is rarely available. Attendance at public meetings hearings or events outside regular business hours may be required. While performing the primary duties of the position the employee will be required to sit and stand; walk; use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and color vision.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Annual salary: $45000 $65000 based on experience and qualifications
