Johnson & Johnson is hiring for aPrincipal Extrusion Engineer to join our team located inSanta Clara CA.

Position Overview
The Principal Extrusion Engineer is responsible for setting up operating and maintaining extrusion processes to produce high-quality parts and components. This role involves interpreting technical drawings ensuring process robustness and troubleshooting any issues that arise during the process. Also the extrusion engineer will lead characterization and development of extrusion and associated technologies. This individual must have a very robust understanding of inputs and outputs for characterization and development (6S). This position requires high technical competence along with being a team player self-starter and possessing a can-do attitude.
Essential Job Functions
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes related to extrusion and its impact on subassemblies and finish goods.
Hands on capability to set up extrusion process according to job specifications.
Knowledge of materials that are commonly used for extrusion. Be able to provide recommendations for process improvement and material selection. This includes the ability to create and drive the approval of business cases.
Knowledge of transitioning from prototyping / proof-of-concept to sustainable repeatable manufacturing processes.
Leads or plays a prominent role supporting product development projects capturing and documenting design inputs and outputs from feasibility through design transfer into manufacturing.
Coordinate and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure the delivery of superior components and services.
Authors and executes process and system specifications validation and test protocols and validation and test reports.
Assesses reliability safety performance and risk of new designs and methodologies and insures individual and group safety when conducting all activities.
Supports manufacturing activities as an extrusion SME as necessary.
Provides product and process DFM (Design for Manufacturing) input to Product Development Engineering team to enhance manufacturability and product cost.
Must possess strong communication skills to interface with operators technicians product development planning purchasing regulatory inspection clinical marketing organizations and suppliers. This is also inclusive of business acumen and financial impact of technical decisions.
Leads/participates in continuous improvement initiatives focused on material cost reduction capacity enhancement and streamlining of supply chain.
Lead and/or actively participate in product/process engineering problem solving using DMAIC methodology.
Support the transfer of product lines and the qualification-validation efforts.
Evaluates existing engineering processes and recommends improvements
Requirements
Bachelors degree in engineering. Preferably Mechanical Electrical Chemical or Biomedical Engineering. Advanced degree is preferred.
Minimum of eight (10) years of experience in a medical device environment or eight (8) years of experience with a Masters Degree.
Knowledge of and compliance with applicable Quality System requirements such as QSRs FDA ISO MDD and other applicable regulations.
Experience and understanding Process Validations (IQOQPQ) 6S (Green belt or BB) Lean Manufacturing Experience working with statistics and using statistical software Capability Studies (Cpks) DOEs.
Strong Knowledge of Solid modeling/CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred).
Strong problem-solving ability including demonstrated ability to effectively design execute report on and draw conclusions from experiments.
Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication including creating and delivering presentations. Sound financial acumen for business case creation and capacity analysis.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
Operate as a team and/or independently while demonstrating flexibility to changing requirements.
Employee may be required to occasionally lift objects up to 25 lbs.
Additional Information:
The anticipated base pay for this position is $146200 - $197800 annually.
The Company maintains highly competitive performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporations performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Companys discretion on an individual basis.
