    POSITION SUMMARY/CLASS DESCRIPTION

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Performs intermediate technical level administrative support work under general supervision. Work may include performing clerical work including data entry and document management file maintenance of secure and confidential records internal meetings and public contact. A majority of the time will be spent reviewing and redacting body worn camera footage.

    ***This is a State Authorized Exempt position and is ineligible for membership in a collective bargaining unit.***

    STARTING SALARY IS $55808 ANNUALLY/$26.83 HOURLY

    CLASS DESCRIPTION:
    Performs senior secretarial or routine paralegal work which may include supervisory responsibility under general supervision from an administrative or technical superior. Work typically involves independent and confidential secretarial work as the appointed secretary toa Circuit Court Judge; or work may involve writing briefs conducting research and providing other paralegal support to a legal staff.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    • On a daily basis watch and review all the police body worn camera footage and vehicle dash camera footage. Responsible for initially identifying any potential legal problems as well as redacting out any privileged or sensitive parts of the videos.
    • Provide the ASAs focus on specific points of a video as opposed to having to watch hours and hours of unnecessary footage.
    • Types a variety of legal matters which may include opinions reports decrees memoranda correspondence orders speeches and other material and documents.
    • Answers inquiries; explains policies and procedures of the office to the public attorneys Government and private agencies and other interested parties.
    • Composes and types letters and memos pertaining to routine matters.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

    MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    Associates Degree and three (3) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of courtroom procedures legal terminology procedures.
    • Ability to conduct legal research.
    • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
    • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others.
    • Solid technical ability
    • Paralegal certificate

    LANGUAGE SKILLS MATHEMATICAL SKILLS AND REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients customers and the general public.

    Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ration and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    CERTIFICATES LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

    Paralegal certification by the American Bar Association.

    NCIC Certification from the Department of Public Safety

    Howard County Police Departments Record Management System access.
