Job Description

THE VANCOUVER SCHOOL BOARD WELCOMES APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF:

JUNIOR BUYER
(TECHNICAL & RESOURCE SUPPORT C)

Department : Purchasing and Administrative Services Division
Hours : 7 hours per day

This position is 100% in-person at the VSB Education Centre (1580 West Broadway)

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical and resource support to the Division
  • Provides Buyer duties for the Department
  • Manages the procurement process for standardized equipment supplies and services for the best value to the Board
  • Prepares (in consultation with user departments) non-technical and general specifications for bid documents analyses (with written supporting documentations and reports) and recommends best value
  • Determines sources of supply from Purchasing information and the marketplace
  • Awards routine purchases tracks orders solves problems and expedites as necessary
  • Refers difficult product comparisons or long-term purchases to senior buyer positions or supervisor for decision making and assists senior buyers with research and historical information
  • Maintains varied records of purchasing statistics descriptive lists work-in-progress scheduled and completed files etc.
  • Ensures accuracy of all information documentations and processes
  • Keeps up-to-date on market conditions price trends and brings unusual matters or developing price trends to te attention of supervisor with supporting analysis and recommendations
  • Perform other duties within the band as required

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 plus completion of the Supply Management Training (SMT) program offered by the Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) of Canada or equivalent supply chain education offered by a recognized educational institution or supply chain association
  • Minimum of two (2) years related procurement experience
  • Good knowledge of modern purchasing methods and principles regulations policies and procedures
  • Ability to evaluate quality price and suitability of goods
  • Must possess sound judgement independent decision-making problem solving and strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) system and Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Professional public procurement is an asset

COMPENSATION

The salary for this position is $65993 plus a comprehensive benefits package including Municipal Pension Plan Vancouver Employee Savings Plan Extended Health Dental Group Life Long Term Disability Vacation & Gratuity Days.
