The Department
The Epilepsy Unit at The Alfred has recently been dramatically expanded in its clinical and research activity and infrastructure has become one of the largest Epilepsy Units in Australia with patients referred from across Victoria and Australia. The development includes the appointment of a Professorial Director of Epilepsy new epileptologists and epilepsy fellows and a multidisciplinary professional team including neuropsychiatrists neuropsychologists neuropsychiatry fellows dietician epilepsy coordinator and an epilepsy nurse consultant who interface with existing neurological nursing radiological and sleep unit addition the Unit has a purpose-built in-patient video-EEG monitoring (VEM) capacity that has 8 beds in 7 West for elective patients admitted for diagnostic evaluation chronic poorly controlled seizures pre-epilepsy surgical work up and chronic intracranial EEG monitoring (i.e. subdural grids depth electrodes and stereo-EEG).
In terms of outpatient service there are large multidisciplinary Epilepsy Outpatient Clinics at The Alfred Campus and Caulfield Hospital a First Seizure at the Alfred Hospital and an Epilepsy/Neurology clinic at Sandringham addition there are sub-specialised clinics in Epilepsy Surgery Neuropsychology Dietary therapy Neuromodulation clinic Neuropsychology Epilepsy Surgical Assessments Neuromodulation and Functional Seizures. These clinics provide in-person as well as Telehealth Service to enable specialist epilepsy consultations to patients living in rural and regional areas across Australia.
The role
The role is responsible for supporting the Director of Epilepsy with all personal assistant and site administration functions across both clinical and academic activities as well as duties reasonably delegated by them. This includes managing the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Epilepsy Unit which encompasses the coordination of inpatient video-EEG monitoring (VEM) beds at The Alfred and outpatient clinics at The Alfred Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals. Key responsibilities include coordination of appointments in line with Medicare guidelines management of VEM admissions and outpatient bookings and oversight of central communication channels such as the Epilepsy Unit email inbox telephone lines and mail. The role also provides supervision and support to the Epilepsy Unit Assistants including onboarding training and day-to-day task management within their defined scope of practice. As a key contact point for patients families healthcare providers and support networks this position plays an essential role in the coordination and delivery of Epilepsy services within Alfred Health.

Previous experience working with people with epilepsy and their carers
Experience in supporting medical/research grant writing in an administrative capacity in health or a community setting
