Job Description

Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre (MVSC) is located in Melbourne Australia and is one of the leaders of advanced multidisciplinary medical services for animals with a diverse group of respected veterinary specialists experienced in referral cases for surgery internal medicine oncology dermatology and animal behaviour. The centre aims to provide clients patients and referring veterinarians with the best integrated veterinary care available within the one complex and promote a team mentality with a fun and supportive work environment.

The Surgery department is seeking an experienced veterinary nurse to provide high quality patient care and assist the specialist veterinarians in various tasks. The position requires a high level and quality of nursing skills and experience coupled with the ability to learn new skills quickly and work within a fast-paced environment. Whilst this role is predominantly based with our Surgical team there may be opportunities/requirements to rotate between our Surgery and Internal Medicine and departments.

  • Advanced imaging onsite - Brand new 64 slice CT 1.5 tesla high field MRI (by Oct 2025) current low field MRI onsite CT and high field MRI available offsite

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with diagnostic procedures
  • Pre-operative processes
  • Assist with setting up of theatre
  • Provision of surgical assistance
  • Assist with anaesthesia & analgesia
  • Manage and maintain central sterile supply
  • Assist with monitoring procedures
  • Assist with the management of post-operative care
  • Assist with administration and maintenance tasks

This role would be ideal for a qualified veterinary nurse with a minimum of 3 years experience in general practice experience within Specialty or ECC is not required but would be advantageous. Certificate IV in nursing (or equivalent qualification) is a prerequisite. We are looking for a team member who is highly motivated can focus well has good client and staff relationship skills works well in a highly skilled team has experience in monitoring anaesthetics and thrives in a busy work environment and lastly enjoys a laugh!
