Confirmation Coordinator
(Part-Time not to exceed 19 hours per week)
Position Summary: The Confirmation Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of all
activities related to preparing the Confirmation candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This includes direction of the parish-based program and support of the activities related to the Family of Parishes. The program and materials are selected in collaboration with the Discipleship Formation Director.
Major Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
- Act as the primary contact between parish staff Confirmation candidates and their parents
- Keep ongoing communication with the pastor Discipleship Formation Director and the Youth Minister; meeting on a regular basis.
- Create the schedule for all Confirmation related events
- Coordinate with parish staff regarding liturgical celebrations related to Confirmation
- Begin recruitment of candidates early and advertise so that registration is completed as much as possible before the first session begins.
- Facilitate four meeting in addition to the Confirmation Sessions and two retreats (Parent/Teen Orientation Sponsor-Candidate Meeting Pre-Retreat meeting and Confirmation Vigil and Rehearsal)
- Recruit and train parish adults and High School teens to participate as Facilitators in the Confirmation process
- Prepare students for the Confirmation liturgy
- Prepare the Confirmation liturgy in conjunction with the Discipleship Formation Director and the Pastor
- Encourage candidates to participate in service activities in the parish community and beyond
- Encourage candidates to be active participants in the Sunday liturgies
- Lead candidates into an ongoing encounter with the Holy Spirit as intentional disciples of Jesus being prepared to be sent on mission
Related practical duties:
- Assign parts of each session to teen and adult facilitators and communicate these responsibilities to them.
- Setup of the session space and small group rooms for each session and facilitate the clean up afterwards.
- Delegate the preparation of materials for the session in advance of the sessions and follow-up to those absent.
- Delegate the calling of parents and/or candidates and teen facilitators in advance of each session to remind them of the session.
- After each session calling parents and/or candidates and teen facilitators who were absent to follow up and to develop a closer relationship and commitment.
- Reminding candidates and teen facilitators of upcoming session via text and/or email the day before a session.
- Keep attendance records for each session and retreats.
- Facilitate the collection of all Confirmation materials (e.g. permission slips money for retreats letters to the Bishop etc.)
- Collect Parent Affirmation Letters and Candidate pictures for the retreat. Follow up and make sure that everyone has at least one letter from a parent and a picture.
- Arrange any alternative transportation plans for sessions/retreats (e.g. if a
candidate needs to come late/leave early from the retreat and doesnt have a
ride) - Coordinate any necessary food preparation.
- Reserve location for the Retreats and arrange for transportation and payments.

Position Requirements:
- Love of the Lord and Youth
- Satisfactory background check
- Completion of Protecting Gods Children workshop before being hired.
- Active member in the parish faith community
- Completion of catechist formation program as offered by the AOD or equivalent formation or working toward basic ministry certification with the Archdiocese of Detroit
- Valid Michigan drivers license in good standing (if driving in this ministry)
Professional Development: The Confirmation Coordinator is encouraged to attend in-
service events related to this ministry and ministry certification as offered by the
Archdiocese of Detroit.
