We are looking for a dedicated Equipment Shift Manager Asset Maintenance to join our team in Los Angeles CA. The Equipment Shift Manager Asset Maintenance is responsible for the management of all aspects of the maintenance of Quay Cranes RTGs and Spreaders. This position is also responsible to assist with cost effective maintenance and proper communication with AM contractors and APMTs Operations team

  • Directly manage AM contractors and union labor in all areas of maintenance operations with the focus being the maintenance and repair of Automated Straddle Carriers completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain a working and professional relationship with ILWU labor (including OCU) and be knowledgeable in labor contracts and grievance procedures.
  • Resolve the job labor issues with the ILWU locals and represent the interests of the Company.
  • Supervise and direct of a safe and clean working environment through the adherence to OSHA hazardous safety procedures and perform frequent inspections of all equipment.
  • Ensure the safety of all technicians working within their team leading by example in their own behaviors and practices while ensuring the have all the necessary skills and competencies required to perform their normal duties and develop when necessary.
  • Address any grievance brought to your attention in an expeditious manner by investigating the grievance and using your independent judgment and discretion to address the grievance in the best interests of the company.
  • Support the disciplinary process when needed including contributing to investigations into personnel who are not carrying out assigned work properly or safely and recommending training or disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the terminal operation is supplied with properly maintained equipment through direct interaction and communication of fellow team members in other functional areas (i.e. Yard Operations Rail Gate vendors and providers)
  • Manage real-time troubleshooting and repair of critical equipment; effectively communicate equipment status with operations team and work together to develop operational contingencies as necessary.
  • Reviewing shift reports extracting highlights and lowlights for planned work and findings and taking the required steps accordingly including escalation to OEM for critical findings
  • Support Labor in troubleshooting if needed reaching out to OEMs for further investigations root causes modifications.
  • Ensure all equipment under their responsibility is maintained in accordance with local legislation and standards specified by APMT global functions
  • Accountable for ensuring the integrity of all equipment under their ownership considering the age and service of equipment through development and execution of appropriate preventive predictive and inspection activities safely with the aim of reducing risks to as low as reasonably possible
  • Ensure maintenance strategies are developed for all equipment under the responsibility of the Equipment Manager including all minimum requirements specified by Global Asset Maintenance.
  • Ensure the most efficient use of the team working closely with the Maintenance Planner & Scheduler to ensure work is planned accurately and scheduled realistically.
  • Lead the continuous review and improvement of equipment maintenance strategies for equipment under their ownership considering major and repetitive equipment failures
  • Use Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for parts and material associated with maintaining terminal equipment.
  • Monitor the performance of the equipment and its manufacturer following delivery to the terminal.
  • Ensure KPIs for equipment availability reliability cost etc. are met with equipment under their responsibility
  • Ensure all required equipment KPIs and measures are correctly recorded and reported as required Fill the main data file for Strad-shop with respect to work types for further KPIs numbers
  • Perform data analysis to support short-term and long-term strategy. As well as performing data and onsite quality inspections supervising any activities when needed
  • Manage a risk-based approach to pending corrective maintenance considering the compounded risk to safety and operation through multiple failures or defects
  • Manage spare parts inventory requirements for all equipment under their ownership. Verify and confirm with stores any low stock or unavailable parts for further actions. Follow up monthly on warranty claims (parts and labor) with OEM
  • Manage contracts for outsourcing services or specialist activities as required
  • Manage customer relationships with vendors operations group and the lines maintaining timely and transparent communication with each. Interface with equipment suppliers to develop and to review equipment specifications.
  • Review and approve financial expenditures and requisitions. Review and approve invoices for payment. Schedule assign and approve all work hours including overtime for mechanics related to Straddle Carrier shop.
  • Budgets and capture true cost of maintenance by equipment numbers including 100% of parts and labor for each work order.
  • Control and reduce maintenance and materials costs through management of labor labor contractors and vendors.
  • Proactively track and manage the cost of maintenance for their equipment intervening when costs escalate and identifying ways to reduce costs.
  • Investigate and implement mid-term cost savings solutions for areas of excessive repair requirements to maximize profitability of the terminal.

Who we are looking for:

  • Education:
    • A bachelors degree from an accredited university in related field / Industry and equivalent professional experience is required.
    • Five (5) years terminal operations Data analysis Asset management and operational M&R
    • Electrical / Mechanical / Industrial Engineering experience strongly preferred.
  • Leadership:

    • Strong managerial supervisory team building motivating and decision-making skills to direct the union labor workforce and vendors daily to achieve operational goals.

    • Knowledge of Union labor Collective Bargaining Agreements and Safety contract.
    • Prior experience using CMMS or other computer-based maintenance systems
    • Knowledge or prior experience with Lean methodology RCFA KAIZEN Problem solving and data analysis.
