PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To screen intervene refer and support students who are having difficulty in school due to poor attendance disciplinary related issues drug related matters poor decision-making skills; to offer intervention and referral services to the families of these students; to lead the school effort to prevent substance abuse disciplinary infraction and its related issues. To assist in the overall emotional and cognitive well-being of students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelors Degree within the social behavioral sciences
Valid Texas Drivers License required
Special Knowledge/Skills
A working knowledge of the Texas Education Code related issues and their management required
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in the field of mental health social work or education required.

Minimum: $ 317.01
Maximum: $442.29
Note:Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each persons job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of student truancy discipline behavior and related issues and their management to enhance student instruction.
- Conduct confidential individual sessions to determine the students plan.
- Conduct support group sessions appropriate to the needs of students.
- Develop positive rapport with students staff and parents through mental health training.
- Screen and refer students and their families in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Know and utilize referral resources within the district and the community and complete follow-up with students after referral.
- Help to facilitate the reentry of students from an alternative education program to their home campus.
- Make home visits to facilitate services to students and their families.
- Observe all State and Federal Laws regarding client confidentiality.
- Maintain ethical and professional standards of conduct that are in keeping with standards set for other faculty members.
- Attend continuing education programs to improve knowledge and skills and to maintain licensure/certification if applicable.
- Meet regularly and work cooperatively with school Principals and other administrative staff at each assigned campus and assisting to decide the recommended plan of action for students referred and their parents.
- Receive referrals from assigned school campuses; screen students within the specified time frame; and develop an appropriate intervention service plan for each student providing feedback regarding the students progress or lack of.
- Organize and participate in activities to preventstudent truancy drug use or other disciplinary related matters by; i.e. teaching students new and effective ways of communication and appropriate decision making skills.
- Record accurately and maintain demographics in statistics and other appropriate info on a weekly and monthly basis.Provide statistics to the Director of College/Career/Counseling and Program Manager.
- Serve as a facilitator to faculty students and parents including making presentations abouttruancy drug use and other disciplinary related topics.
- Meet regularly and work cooperatively with the Director of College/Career/Counseling and the Program Manager in assisting and implementing the goals of the Family Treatment Program.
- Follow all policies regulations established by the McAllen ISD.
- Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
