Job Description

Field-based scientific leader who is accountable for oversight of all US medical affairs activity at Priority National Accounts. Leads a team comprised of Senior / Medical Outcomes and Scientific Liaisons (Sr MOSLs) who provide clinical expertise and experience / knowledge of managed care health policy and health economics/outcomes research to support AbbVies scientific strategy across the entire product portfolio and relevant therapeutic areas. The NFD combines management capability with a technical and scientific background and expertise in managed care outcomes research health economics and healthcare landscape and policy.

The NFD is expected to gain executive insights with external priority Health Care Decision Makers and additional external stakeholders and assess strategic capabilities with MOSL Director and other senior internal AbbVie leadership to gain appropriate strategic advantage.

Responsibilities

  •  Accountable for engagement with key priority national accounts to support AbbVies scientific strategy across the entire product portfolio and relevant therapeutic areas with the largest impact organizations for AbbVie Assets.
  •  Serves as field voice in relevant therapeutic area GMAT IBT and/or TEC as delegated by MOSL Director Healthcare Solutions to provide field scientific support and insights gathered across the lifecycle of a product from the national/impactful organizations for AbbVie Assets.
  • Proactively seeks and identifies advanced business and clinical knowledge of supported therapeutic areas including current treatment strategies current and pending competitors and new therapeutic developments and overall healthcare landscape changes. Continually educates self and considers direct team and overall HCS Field advancement needs for MOSL Director consideration on US market issues / trends and product knowledge as it pertains to specific business interests & health care policy.
  • Allocates Sr. MOSL resources in alignment with Healthcare Solutions Strategy in order to deliver results on business/clinical strategies while protecting AbbVie from risk and is directly accountable across this key account segment.
  • Accountable for compliance within the designated team. Maintains regulatory and compliance expertise at all times on internal and external regulatory practices.
  • Responsible for communicating and tracking the alignment of individual Sr. MOSL activities and outcomes that support achievement of defined aligned business objectives. Aligns customer relationships and capabilities of individual Sr. MOSLs with the needs of Global Medical Affairs on an ongoing basis.
  • Establishes a productive work environment by creating trust and respect within the group and establishes self as a business partner. Facilitates an atmosphere of confidence and strength and identifies opportunities to recognize and reward outstanding individual performance.
  • Responsible for the dissemination of scientific information within all corporate regulatory and compliance guidelines. Attends appropriate scientific and channel meetings to maintain expertise.
  • Ensures allocation and integration of MOSL resources in support of overarching strategy and MOSL Director direction. Oversees Performance Management process Growth Plans and Professional Development as well as Succession Planning for designated Sr MOSL team. Accountable for budget related to their area and projects as defined.
  • Responsible for the clinical and business competency of field team in supported therapeutic areas including training and development. Ensures the competency of each Sr. MOSL as it relates to regulations guidelines and clinical/scientific information.

Qualifications :

  • Advanced degree required preferably a M.D. D.O Pharm.D. or Ph.D.
  • Greater than or equal to 5 years of direct people management required.
  • >10 years industry or equivalent experience with demonstrated success in a managed care environment required. Preferably would be an individual with multiple years of pharma mgmt and corp. experience. In addition to clinical and therapeutic expertise a superior understanding of the business of healthcare policy and managed markets from the perspective of clinical regulatory commercial and policy issues affecting the pharmaceutical and health insurance environments (preferred).
  • Prior experience working with top national and regional payors
  • Proficiency with regulatory policies compliance procedures clinical/ scientific information and ability to set standards for the team
  • Travel is approximately 60%

The National Field Director is fully accountable for execution and results for priority National Accounts US clinical and business objectives for relevant therapeutic area(s) compound(s) and/or indication(s) as well as a designated field MOSL team(s).

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
