Job Description

Summary

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will participate in research programs of the college and is intended to be a maximum of a 2-year appointment. It is required that the individual develops or participates in a research program that leads to publications and grants for external funding and supports the mission of the college. It is expected that the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will assist students research assistant research associate and faculty with research activities and maintenance of college laboratories.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and develop a research project that supports the mission of the college.
  • Participate in planning and designing followed by conducting experiments of these research projects. Furthermore perform analysis of the data generated and prepare these data for presentation publications and/or grants.
  • Write manuscripts and grants on the aforementioned projects.
  • Guide train and assist students associates and faculty in research activities.
  • Assist in maintenance of research laboratory. Implement laboratory safety protocols and procedures according to ORSP and PIs policies.
  • Perform other duties as required by the college to promote research.
  • Supervise research activities and provide guidance to research assistants technicians and associates working in the laboratory. Improve scientific knowledge of the staff so that they are clear with the objectives and goals of research programs.
  • Maintain active clinical service at practice site.
  • Present continuing education for the University as well as the practice site.
  • Prepare and provide didactic and workshop teaching in addition to precepting responsibilities as assigned.
  • Precept residents and students while on clinical service at the practice site.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience

Must have a terminal degree (e.g. Ph.D. Pharm.D. etc.). Experience in in vitro/in vivo experiments proficiency in working with laboratory methods for clinical microbiology (e.g. susceptibilities time-kill assays etc.) and molecular (PFGE/genetic quantification/MALDI-TOF/whole genome sequencing etc) are preferred. Ability and willingness to work with various microbes and microbiology (lawn grow and freeze bacteria for storage etc.) and ability to maintain accurate and detailed record of experiments are requirements.

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word Excel Outlook) and software related to scientific literature and graphics.

Language Skills

High skills: Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations safety rules. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to top management and boards of directors.

Reasoning Ability

High skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

Mathematical Ability

High skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane/solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to perform advanced pharmacokinetic calculations for the benefit of patient care as part of clinical service responsibilities.

Other Skills and Ability

Applicants must possess strong organizational interpersonal and communication skills; must be highly motivated productive team players with the ability to adapt to new projects and to work on multiple projects.
