Job Description:

Under the direction of the Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) Lead the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team in the Special Education and Student Services (SESS) department to address the communication challenges of students within the school system. The SLP collaborates with parents and educators to support students with speech and language difficulties in order to promote their communication competence and educational success. There are two (2) part time positions.

Roles and Responsibilities would include but not limited to:
  • Screening and/or assessment of students with speech and/or language concerns

  • Direct clinical supervision of Communicative Disorders Assistants

  • Consultation with parents/guardians regarding speech and/or language needs including strategies and targeted activities for home and the classroom

  • Classroom embedded educator consultation regarding students with Augmentative and Alternative Communication needs

  • Development and/or delivery of professional learning to educators parents and/or other professionals

  • Liaison between school staff and outside Speech-Language Pathology service providers

  • Assessment of eligibility for and completion of referrals to community agencies

  • Development of therapeutic speech and language goals.

  • Caseload management and scheduling of school visits

  • Collaboration with other SESS professionals and educators to coordinate support and align recommendations to school when jointly supporting a student

  • Contribution to multi-disciplinary school based case conferences Identification Placement and Review Committees and SESS system class placement processes

  • Participation on SESS and/or OCSB committees

  • Other duties as assigned by the SLP Lead

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology

  • Eligible for registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)

  • 2 years of related experience

  • Well-developed observational skills for the purpose of student assessments supervision of CDA intervention sessions educator consultation

  • Effective demonstration and coaching of language acquisition strategies

  • Awareness and respect of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of students and families and considerations for speech and language assessments/intervention

  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators Principals and Vice-Principals and other professionals in the OCSB

  • Ability to adapt delivery of clinical information to a wide variety of audiences (parents/guardians other professionals educators)

  • Strong clinical skills for effective implementation of speech and language treatment programming

  • Current knowledge of evidence-based practices in the field of speech-language pathology

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • A valid drivers license and personal vehicle

The following would be considered an asset:

  • Certification in Picture Exchange Communication Systems Level I (PECS Level 1 certification)

  • Certification in Hanen Training Workshops

  • Experience with school-aged children

  • Experience working for a School Board

  • Experience supervising Communicative Disorders Assistants

  • Ability to use technology for testing and therapeutic goals

  • Good working knowledge of the Google Suite of applications

Salary:This is a part time (0.50 FTE) temporary assignment with an anticipated start date of August 25 2025 and an anticipated end date of July 10 2026 with the possibility of an extension at the end of the term. The annual salary range for this role is $83530 - $106427 which will be prorated to the duration of the assignment.
