The Assistant Dean of Students is a vital member of the school leadership team fully dedicated to the mission and values of the school. This role is critical in fostering a positive supportive and disciplined environment that promotes academic excellence personal growth and community bonding.
The Assistant Dean is responsible for helping the Dean of Students manage student affairs across multiple departments and collaborate with faculty staff parents and students to ensure a productive warm and safe campus culture. By shaping and enriching the school culture the Assistant Dean has the opportunity to make a profound impact on student development and the overall success of the school community.
Key Responsibilities:
Discipline
- Oversee Level 1 and 2 Restoration Plans including suspensions and behavioral holds
- Lead all meetings with students and parents on Level 1 and 2 Restoration Plans and oversee the completion of these plans with the Restoration Council.
- Ensure proper record-keeping and follow-through for detention suspension and behavioral concerns.
- Maintain consistent communication with parents and teachers regarding student disciplinary concerns.
- Coordinate with faculty coaches and parents when Level 1 and 2 disciplinary actions affect student participation in extracurricular activities such as athletics.
- Support the Dean of Students in overseeing and managing student class attendance.
- Assist the Dean of Student investigate and enforce policies related to tech use drug and alcohol testing and other major disciplinary actions.
- Attend weekly Students of Concern meetings with the Dean of Students addressing the needs of students who require academic emotional or behavioral support.
Advisory Program and Attendance
- Oversee the Advisory Program throughout the year
- Collaborate with the Dean of Students in managing attendance at Monday Assemblies Wednesday Chapels and Friday Advisory Groups.
Operations and Campus Safety
- Coordinate with various departments such as facilities security and tech for the smooth operation of school day programs.
- Assist the Dean of Students in school-wide schedule changes including communication regarding lunch schedules assemblies and other special events.
- Maintain accurate records including attendance logs discipline records and student communications in coordination with the Dean of Students.
- Serve as spokesperson at events such as Orientation Open houses and Faculty Meetings when the Dean of Students is unavailable.
- Attend the weekly Operations Administrative Meetings and the Student Support Meetings
- Coordinate with the Dean of Students and the Health Center on student drug testing attendance issues and accommodations for students on suspension.
- Assist the Dean of Students and Campus Safety with fire drills lockdown drills and bus drills to ensure safety preparedness for all students.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Collaborate with the Director of Student Life to manage boarding students who earn Restoration Plans and facilitate weekly meetings for students in need of additional guidance.
- Provide leadership and support across all aspects of student life ensuring that students needs are met holistically and spiritually and their academic behavioral and social well-being is prioritized.
- Weekly Night Duty and member of a Weekend Team
- Teach a Mini-Course both Mini-Course Weeks
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree required; Masters degree in Education Student Affairs or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in student affairs academic advising or a related role in an educational setting.
- Strong interpersonal organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty staff students and parents.
- Experience with student discipline restorative practices and behavioral interventions.
- Knowledge of current educational trends including AI policies tech policies and student mental health resources.
