Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Children and Families the Research Writer is responsible for collecting organizing and analyzing information statistics and data. The Research Writer will also prepare writing material based on relevant information in relation to supporting First Nations in Manitoba who are asserting jurisdiction and developing offices to support children and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Coordinator with comprehensive research of Child Welfare legislations policies and standards and funding opportunities for First Nations leadership to support capacity-building efforts.
- Use pertinent research results to prepare briefing notes letters and other necessary documentation to support the project as required.
- Develop a proposal template to assist First Nations in accessing various funding opportunities to establish offices to support children and families.
- Assist with the development of a tool to facilitate environmental scans and needs assessments in First Nations.
- Develop a presentation and tools to facilitate the PATH Exercise in First Nations.
- Collect record and analyze data to ensure effective service delivery.
- Assist with the development of training materials including presentations and manuals.
- Assist with the development of a curriculum for culturally appropriate workshops that promote traditional parenting practices family violence awareness and prevention and wellness workshops for families.
- Assist with the development of training manuals for prenatal and postnatal support rites of passage family wellness and family reunification positions to support the establishment of offices in First Nations to support children and families.
- Assist with the creation of an instructional guide for training manuals to ensure First Nations are equipped with the training and materials to train others.
- Assist with the facilitation of presentations in First Nations to determine a plan of action and timeline to accomplish goals objectives and activities.
- Attending meetings in First Nations with the Executive Coordinator and team to present on services available to First Nations to support capacity building.
- Assist with the development of training sessions in a variety of formats to meet the needs of First Nations such as in-person workshops and virtual webinars.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- A university degree in a related field of Social Sciences or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in the research field is required.
- Proven knowledge of data and collection methods.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools coding and statistical applications.
- Demonstrated team-oriented skills to foster a positive workplace culture.
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with staff through clear communication and teamwork.
- Experience multi-tasking to meet the needs of complex projects and assignments.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a rapidly evolving environment.
- Demonstrated ability to meet tight time constraints to meet deadlines with high-quality work.
- Knowledge of First Nations culture history treaty and inherent rights.
- Experience working with First Nations and First Nations organizations or entities.
- Excellent verbal written interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office software Word Excel and Outlook.
- Be able to follow office practices procedures and confidentiality.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel upon request.
- Must have a valid Class 5 drivers license and a reliable vehicle.
- Must have a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check Clear Child Abuse Checks.
