Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) Center for the Creative Economy is establishing a pool of applicants on an ongoing basis for adjunct teaching positions. The Center will consult the adjunct applicant pool and contact qualified applicants for interviews on an as- needed basis.
Possible adjunct opportunities could include teaching a course(s) in any of the areas of study offered by the Center for the Creative Economy. If an adjunct opportunity arises only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
Adjunct faculty are expected to be thoughtful and proactive members of the VCUarts community and have a desire to work with a student population in a collaborative and learning-centered collective.
Typical Duties
Potential Teaching Responsibilities could include any of the following:
Creative Economy courses Examines the contribution of creative ideas to the world economy with a focus on where how and why creative ideas are produced and consumed.
Creative Enterprise courses Introduces the language of the creative enterprise focusing on personal branding business operation and strategic professional development.
Idea and Concept Development courses Exposes students to the processes and methodologies used to transform ideas and opportunities into sustainable business models. Students evaluate business case studies engage industry professionals and investigate the commercial potential of their creative ideas.
User Experience Web Design Explores the intersections of creative thinking and computational thinking. Students develop creative ideas with front-end and back-end digital languages processes and tools. Introduces web design tools methods and processes. Topics include customer expectations web coding multimedia technologies usability and accessibility practices and techniques for the evaluation of web design.
Electives a wide range of options exist based on need and expertise
Minimum Qualifications
- MFA MBA MS orBFAwith significant professional experience in fields related to teaching responsibilities.
- Appropriate teaching experience and/or strong oral presentation and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
