Salary: $24.03 to 26.44 / hourly (DOE) (Non-Exempt)

Full Time: Monday to Friday: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

SHIELDSmission is to develop deliver and evaluate culturally sensitive comprehensive service models that empower and advocate for high-risk families in South Los Angeles.

Responsible for:

  • Providing crisis intervention intake assessment and individual family and group therapy to adults children and families with a history of mental illness.

  • Coordinating support services to assist clients with independent living.

Primary Duties

Depending on specific program assignment may perform any or all of the following:

  • During on-boarding providing direct client care services so that you are meeting 55% productivity by the third month (90 days).
  • After on-boarding maintain a minimum productivity standard of 55% per month comprised of direct client care services.
  • Maintaining a caseload of a minimum of twenty-five clients.
  • Providing a range of services including individual family counseling and community based social rehab activities collateral contacts and case management services.
  • Screening and triage new referrals provide internal/external linkage as appropriate
  • Assessing and monitoring condition of client to evaluate success of treatment and adapts interventions as needed.
  • Providing case management to include assessment of client/family needs referral links and support in accessing community services psychiatrist medical care housing rehabilitation programs drug/alcohol services and social activity groups.
  • Assisting with linkage and support when a client is being placed on a 5150 or voluntary hospitalization either by accompanying the client/family to the Psychiatric Hospital or by contacting the PET Team/Police to have the client placed on a 5150 hold.
  • Monitoring and maintaining documentation of client services within clients charts ensuring compliance with Agency policies and procedures Department of Mental Health contract and other related agencies standards and guidelines.
  • Attending and participating in program Agency staff meetings; and related community agency meetings as required/requested.

Qualifications

These specifications are general guidelines based upon the minimum ordinarily considered essential to satisfactory performance in this position. Individual skills and abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

To perform effectively in this position the employee in this position is required to have:

  • A working knowledge of conducting individual counseling sessions for those with a history of mental illness and their families.
  • Strong working knowledge of crisis intervention and individual counseling documentation psychiatric intern supervision and multicultural and socio-economic issues.
  • Know and comply with Agency policies and procedures HIPAA Department of Mental Health policies and documentation guidelines and other state/federal regulations relating to service programs for adults with a history of mental illness.
  • Basic advocacy skills.
  • Present ideas information and viewpoints clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Efficiently use the personal computer to include a variety of word processing software.
  • Utilize analysis experience and judgment to make decisions.
  • Demonstrate commitment to team objectives and SHIELDS For Families philosophies.
  • Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
  • A valid California drivers license is required for this position as driving is an essential function of the role and is required for field work client crisis response and emergencies. Avalid car insurance and registration is required.
  • Provides services within a culturally sensitive ethnic informed model of practice and is respectful to the community and clients.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required. May request medical or religious exemption if applicable.

These requirements are typically met by a combination of education at a Bachelors level and experience that includes two years experience working with individuals with a history of mental illness in a social service/mental health environment.
