Job Description

  • Join a world-class marine genomics research centre transforming ocean conservation.
  • Work with cutting-edge sequencing technologies and bioinformatics tools.
  • Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for 2 years.
  • Base salary range: $80243 $88940p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

Minderoo OceanOmics Centre at UWA is a world-class research facility established through a collaboration between The University of Western Australia and Minderoo Foundation. Located in the Bayliss Building on UWAs Crawley Campus the Centre uses ground-breaking genomics-based research to characterise marine biodiversity. Focusing on Australias native marine vertebrates and regional marine ecosystems we integrate advanced genomics infrastructure specialist expertise and strong collaborative networks to generate large-scale Environmental DNA (eDNA) and whole-genome sequencing datasets. Our work establishes a genomics-enabled foundation for biodiversity discovery ecological understanding informed conservation-management and the development of innovative biomonitoring solutions.

About the opportunity

  • Support the development and implementation of bioinformatics tools and workflows for high-throughput genomic sequencing data.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and technical staff in a state-of-the-art facility.
  • Contribute to impactful marine conservation research through data analysis pipeline development and scientific communication.

About you

  • Tertiary qualification in science (e.g. genetics genomics molecular biology) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools command-line systems and programming languages (e.g. bash Python R).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Familiarity with data management practices version control systems (e.g. Git) and online repositories (e.g. SRA GenBank) is desirable.

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role.
  • Some after-hours work and occasional travel may be required.
