Job Description

The School of Music is seeking a full-time Admissions and Outreach/Engagement Specialist. This position will be responsible for recruiting students locally regionally and nationally; will work with School of Music faculty and staN to establish enrollment goals; and will work with faculty and staN to ensure these enrollment goals are met. In addition to direct recruitment responsibilities this position will also lead outreach and engagement activities such as the Community Music Lessons program Iowa Honor Band and donor- recognition events. This person will build relationships with local schools and community partners to strengthen connections between the School of Music and the greater Iowa City community.



Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit as well as provide information and guidance to prospective students and their families regarding university and School of Music programs student life and admission policies and procedures. Arrange visits tours and auditions for prospective with UI Office of Admissions and School of Music staff to plan coordinate implement manage or assist with recruitment programs.
  • Represent the University at recruitment and public service programs and represent the School of Music at on-campus recruiting events.
  • Consult with and explain admission policies and procedures to secondary schools community colleges and other educational institutions and external organizations.
  • Collaborate with School of Music and Admissions marketing staff to ensure that materials and marketing plans for recruitment activities are effective and to develop new communication channels.
  • Work with SOM Director and faculty to develop strategic annual recruitment projections and goals informed by data. Gather data and prepare routine reports and analyses.
  • Supervise student workers in the School of Music Student Ambassador program.
  • Collaborate with Office of Performing Art and Engagement and School of Music faculty on guest artist visits.
  • Coordinate Youth Programs policy registrations data collection and reporting.
  • Manage Community Music Lessons program and supervise student instructors.
  • Assist DEO with donor relations and coordinate annual School of Music donor recognition event in collaboration with Undergraduate AD and UI Center for Advancement.

Education Required

  • Bachelors degree in music or signicant experience in university music programs as a student or employee.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in music admissions or comparable experience. Comparable
    experience may include academic advising career services advising or work specifically targeting first year students.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs: Excel PowerPoint Word Outlook etc.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and have a valid drivers license.
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of oral and written communication and relationship building skills.
  • Must demonstrate careful attention to detail and accuracy strong organizational skills and the ability to
    handle multiple tasks or projects quickly and effectively.



Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with financial aid policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies procedures and regulations.
  • Experience supervising support staff or student employees.
